How Email Marketers Can Appeal To GMail Subscribers For Inbox Delivery To The Primary Folder

If you're an email marketer struggling to increase the engagement and view rate of your email newsletters that are been delivered to the "Promotions" tab of GMail users, you can consider appealing to your GMail subscribers to move your newsletters to the "Primary" folder.

This is one of the reliable methods of avoiding decreases in view rates since there is no direct trick you can use to make your newsletters bypass Gmail tab’s Promotions folder and CONSISTENTLY land in the Primary folder.

If you want to appeal to your GMail subscribers, all you need to do, is to fetch out the Gmail-only contacts from your list and send them a special introduction in your next newsletter. This, you can do easily if you're using madmimi for your email marketing.

It’s simple to sort your Gmail addresses in Mad Mimi using the search bar and then include an opening line encouraging your readers to move your newsletters to the Primary folder. You can check out the tutorial on madmimi blog.

Kindly note that email marketing best practices still matter.

A strong subject line will still increase your view rates and good opt-in practices will still mean better delivery.

Good content will still mean engaged users and avid readers and Gmail’s new tabs won’t lessen the value you bring to your subscribers.

Gmail and all ISP’s rely heavily on user feedback to define filtering so reader actions are currently, and will remain, the most important aspect of your delivery.  So, if your emails are encouraging your readers to reply and have conversations with you, you’ll likely become a candidate for the Primary tab.

I hope this helps.

If you know tricks that can make email newsletters deliver consistently in the 'Primary" folder, kindly share via comments.

You can sign up for your free account at MadMimi here.

How To Receive Email Newsletters in Primary Tab of GMail Inbox

GMail Tabs is a filtering system that allows GMail users to sort their mail into categories like Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates and Forums. If you've enabled it, you might have noticed that email newsletters you subscribe to, typically arrive in the "Promotions" tab by default instead of the "Primary"inbox.

As a result of this, you're likely to miss some important newsletters if you don't always check the "Promotions" tab for new emails.

If you've subscribed to an email list and won't want to miss the newsletters, you can adjust the Gmail Tabs settings to deliver an email newsletter to the primary tab in 2 easy steps.

STEP 1

==> Go to the "Promotions" tab, find the email you want to move to the "Primary" tab, right-click on it (without opening the email) and click : "Move to tab > Primary"

STEP 2

==> Click Yes when offered the option to “always deliver sender@domain.com” to Primary.

That's all.

Repeat as needed for other favourite email newsletters that deliver to Gmail Tab’s Promotions tab by default.

Free eBook On How To Advertise to Facebook Users A Week To Their Birthday

Hi,

I've compiled a free guide that will explain to you, how to use Facebook ads to target Facebook users, a week to their birthday.

If you run an ad over a period of many days, it will be shown to people whose birthday is within one week of the day when they see the ad.

For example, people with a January 1 birthday may see the ad for a week leading up to January 1. People with a January 2 birthday will see the ad for a week leading up to that day.

If you’re selling gifts of any type– this is your chance to do something. Cards, flowers, T-shirts, silly items… Doesn’t even have to be birthday related– you could even promote a little cosmetic surgery to older women.

This idea is also perfect for those that sell cakes……

The possibility is endless though. Just think out of the box and apply the strategy to your business.

 You can download it here.

Pls, share with friends.

Have fun!

How To Remove Your Billing Information from AdRoll.com

AdRoll.com offers a fully functional self-serve dashboard that puts the latest retargeting technology at your fingertips. I've used the site to run some retargeting campaigns in the past.

Yesterday, a friend I refered to the site asked me how he can remove his billing information from adroll. I asked him why he wants to do that and he told me it's simply because he is no longer comfortable with how AdRoll charges his account coupled with the fact that he can't view his balance on his AdRoll dashboard.

To cut the story short, I told him he can't totally remove his billing info. There must be at least one valid payment method on file. He became more worried..

I asked him if he has a debit card with zero fund, he said Yes. So, I suggested he adds the card as a new payment method. He did and this enabled the "remove" button option for the old payment info.

With this, he was able to remove his active billing info without closing his AdRoll account.

How To Schedule Tweets and Facebook Updates Using Hootsuite

Few days back,  +Akpene Jacob  shared a tutorial on how to post blog posts automatically to Facebook using hootsuite. In the post, he explained how to add your Facebook account to your hootsuite account and how to integrate your blog feed so that hootsuite can be posting your latest blog updates to Facebook automatically.

Well, you can do more with hootsuite. The social media management tool helps you find balance between work time and free time. You can use it to grow your blog traffic with a continual presence online and enjoy the free time you deserve as a blogger.

Hootsuite allows you to schedule social media updates in advance and target your audience on the social channels you choose. Believe me, if you schedule Tweets and Facebook Updates, it will free up a lot of social media time.

There are many situations where being able to schedule Twitter messages comes in handy: you could have too many Tweets to handle at once, you may be out of town on vacation, or just out of office for a quick bite. Scheduling also comes handy for paid online campaigns.

Hootsuite supports manual scheduling and auto scheduling. The manual option lets you select date and time your update will be posted to your social media channels while the Auto-schedule claims to choose the best time slots to post your desired number of social network updates within your specified time interval.

How To Schedule Updates Using Hootsuite

I assume you've added your social networks as explained here.

==> Sign in to www.hootsuite.com or launch the hootsuite app on your mobile device

hootsuite schedule

==> Choose the social profiles you wish to send your messages to using the Social Network Selector.

==> Type your message in the compose message tool.

==> Click the calendar icon in the bottom of the compose message tool.

==> Set the date and time you want your message to send, and select if you want to receive a sent e-mail confirmation.

==> Click the "Schedule" button. That's all!

You will receive email notification once the scheduled message is published on the selected social media channel.

NOTE: If you use the hootsuite URL shortner, you will be able to track the stats of traffic you get from your hootsuite posts via the hootsuite reports.  It’s also important not to overwhelm your audience with too much content.

Want to edit your scheduled post?

==> Click the publisher icon on the left-hand side of the dashboard

==> Click the "Scheduled" tab

==> Edit any scheduled message by hoovering over it and clicking the edit icon.

==> Make your changes and Save.

If you don't want to be entering the date and time everytime you schedule a post, you can use the auto-schedule option. I use this option alot. With it, I can auto-schedule posts for one week within 15 minutes. So, when am at work during the week, my posts keep flying all across my social media channels :)

You can read how hootsuite auto schedule works here.

Set Up Facebook Ad With 1000 Naira ($6) for One Week

I decided to create this quick post because of the requests I received on Facebook few hours ago after posting updates as regards to Facebook ads.

In one of the status updates, I said "If you cant afford at least N5,000 to advertise your online business on ‪#‎facebook‬ for 30days, you don't a business".  A friend of mine, replied and I quote : "But N5,000 is not even sufficient to advertise on facebook ads for a week, how come a month? ......".

So, in this post, I'm going to show you how possible it is. I assume you understand how to create a Facebook ad though..

Well, no magic in it. All you need to do is to select "lifetime budget" instead of "daily budget"  when creating your ads and ensure you set the ad to run over a specific period of time.

So, let's assume you want to spend NGN1,000 for one week, that will be approximately $6 (NGN170 per dollar) and I will assume 6 days makes a week.

==> Go to www.facebook.com/ads to create your ad

==> At the budget section, click the drop down arrow, then select "lifetime budget" instead of "daily budget"

==> By default, Facebook might automatically set the budget to $350 or something else. Edit it to $6.

==> Click on the calendar icon in the "End" field and ensure it's set to 6days. This will ensure you're budgeting at least $1.00 for every day your ad will run.

It should look similar to the screenshot below :

facebook lifetime budget

That's all.

If you want to spend N5,000 for 30 days, use a lifetime budget of $30 and set it to run for 30days as explained above.

NB
: If the ad set doesn't spend up to $1 on the first day, the system will try to make up the missed amount at a later date within the ad set.

Remember, no big deal in setting up Facebook ads. The most important thing is how to get the best out of your ads without having to break the bank.

Those that were at the BloggersLab get-together in Lagos in October learnt a lot as regards this and hopefully will also be discussed at another get-together that will take place before the end of this year.

You can check out my discussion about Facebook ads at Bloggerslab here. You cal also check out Donvin's discussion here too.

I hope this helps.

How To Schedule Facebook Ads To Run On Specific Time of The Day

Yesterday, I created a Facebook ad to promote one of my recent blog posts with a $6 budget (approximately NGN1,000). I did not only ensure I targeted demographics and interests that will be more likely to be interested in engaging with the ads, I also scheduled the ads to run on specific time of the day.

In this post, I've decided to share with you, steps involved in getting this done. I expect you to have created your ad, making sure you use a lifetime budget instead of daily budget for your Ad set.

==> Sign in to www.facebook.com/ads

==> Click on "Power Editor". Works fine on Chrome browser.

==> Download your campaigns to the Power editor

==> Go to the ad set containing the ad you want to schedule

==> While on the "Edit Ad Set" page, scroll down to "Ad Scheduling"

==> Select "Run ads on a schedule"

schedule fb ads

==> Select the blocks of time you want ads in the Ad Set to run.

==> Click "Upload Changes" to upload your changes to the ad system.

That's all.

Below is a screenshot of my ad set scheduled to run from 6am to 12am.

NB: Your ad set must run for at least one hour. There is no maximum amount of time the ad set can run.

If you schedule your ad set to run at a specific day and time, your ad set will show in your audience's time zone. For example, if you select 8am-10am, your ad set will show to people from 8am to 10am in their local time.

Keep in mind that your insights, reports and billing will continue to show in your ad account's time zone and also keep in mind these best practices for scheduling ad sets.

7 Tips for Ad dynamo Advertisers To Increase Campaign Performance

While trying to find out how retargeting works on Addynamo, I stumbled on some tricks shared on Addynamo website. If you've been running some online ad campaings using the Ad dynamo ad network, below are tips to optimize performance of your campaings:

addynamo logo

1. Use CPM for Brand Awareness Campaigns

Although, CPC (Cost Per Click) is rated as the most cost effective form of advertising, you may try opting in for the CPM (Cost per Impression) bidding model if you only want to use the ad campaign to create awareness for your brand.

Ad Dynamo scores ads based on historic performance. Hence, if you use CPC bidding model and your ads have a low click through rate, they will probably be shown progressively less on the Ad Dynamo network of publishers.

Altering the campaign to a CPM bid will effectively instruct Ad Dynamo to ignore the click through rate & your ads will enjoy greater exposure.

NB: You can only select your bidding method (Pay per click or Pay per Impression) when creating a campaign on Addynamo.

2. Create Multiple Campaigns & Ad Groups

If you're running campaigns across multiple countries, it makes sense to monitor the performance of each country individually. You can do this by creating a seperate campaign for each country that is targeted. You can select country to be targeted via the "campaign Settings" on Addynamo.

When you're advertising multiple products or services, it makes sense to create a seperate AdGroup for each product in order to properly evaluate the performance of each respective product. i.e if you create a campaign for your Nigeria online fashion store, you should create seperate AdGroups for men office shirts, women dresses etc

3. Multiple Creatives/Advertisement

The more ad sizes that you load into an AdGroup, the more exposure you can win without adjusting your bid per click.  This is because your ads will qualify for a wider selection of relevant publishers.

Hence, instead of just promoting your product with just a text ad, try to create ad banners of sizes supported by Ad dynamo and upload them to your adgroup.

If you need someone to create ad banners for you, contact me.

4. Enable Google Analytics Option

When creating a campaign you're presented with an option to activate Google Analytics Tracking. If enabled, it will let you  access via Google Analytics, data of traffic generated to your website by Ad Dynamo and more valuable information that can assist you to optimize your campaign.

If enabled, you can view your Addynamo Ad campaign stats at Google Analytics via "Acquisition" > "Campaigns".

5. Enable Ad Dynamo Run of Network Option

The "Run of Network" feature of Addynamo has replaced Keyword targeting. It lets advertisers target all the websites of Addynamo publishers unless they have chosen to disable Run of Network. This will allow you to target a lot of websites through activating it allowing your campaign to achieve good results.

6. Don't Use A Very Low CPC When Targeting Sites

The ad dynamo platform works on a bidding system so the advertisers with the highest bid will have their adverts displayed on a specific website. If you use a very low CPC, your ad campaigns might not record any impression.

According to my Addynamo account manager, the Nigerian average is around $0.12 and $0.18. Hence, altering the CPC of your ad campaign to fall within that range will definitely increase your campaign performance.

7. Track Conversions

A Conversion represents an activity on your website that you would like to track against your advertising campaign. Examples of conversions include: a sale, a lead, a view of an important web page. By tracking conversions, you can monitor the cost per lead, or cost per conversion - effectively helping you to

measure the return on investment (ROI) of your ad campaign.

You can record conversions for your ads by inserting the Addynamo conversion code on your website. Place it on the page where the conversion should be recorded. You can get the code via the "Advanced" tab on the Addynamo Campaigns page.

If you know other tips that can improve campaign performance, kindly share via comments.

Please, SHARE this post with your friends.

Cheers!

How To Set Up CPM Bidding in Google Adwords

Yesterday, I decided to experiment with the CPM bidding instead of the CPC so as to test which one will work better for the promotion of my bulk SMS site on Google display partner sites using Google Adwords.

Types of adwords campaigns

I opted for the "Search Network with Display Select" option when setting up the campaign. When I got to the point where I will have to select my bidding strategy, I didn't see any option to make the campaign focus on impressions (CPM bidding). This baffled me.

I decided to check the Adwords forum for tips on how to set up CPM bidding and fortunately, I stumbled on a thread which explains how to create a campaign that focuses on impressions using Google Adwords.

According to the thread, you can only setup CPM bidding when you have chosen the "Display Network Only" option when setting up your campaign. Selecting this option, automatically enables the CPM bidding option via the campaign settings tab, thereby allowing you to choose whether to focus on clicks (CPC) or impressions (CPM).

Adwords CPM bidding

With CPM bidding, you bid for your ad based on how often it appears on the Google Display Network. You set the max amount you want to pay for 1000 impressions, whether your ads are clicked or not.

This bidding type is recommended to businesses that just want to get their name in front of more people, i.e businesses that care more about ad views than about clicks and visits to their websites.

Campaigns Feature In Blogger Lets You Advertise Your Blog With Adwords

A new feature "Campaigns", which can help your blog get more visibility has been added to the Blogger dashboard. A friend tagged me in a screenshot of the new feature yesterday on Facebook and I signed in to my Blogger account immediately to confirm it.

Unfortunately, as at the time of publishing this, I'm finding it difficult to use the Blogger "campaigns" because I keep seeing "This email address already has access to an AdWords account and cannot be reused." everytime I try using the new feature with my blog's email address.

If you click on the "Campaigns" tab in your Blogger dashboard, you will be taken to a page on "Google Adwords" site where you can create your account and your first ad campaign in just a few steps.

You will be able to create an ad that tells people about your blog, after which you will choose the search terms that will make your ad show in the Google search results.

If the words people type in Google match your keywords, your ad can appear above or next to the search results and people will see your blog on Google.

You get more readers when they click your ad and go to your blog.

Is it Free?

NO. You only pay when they click on your ad.

How Can I Pay for Blogger Campaigns?

If you are a Nigerian, you can pay for the ads using your Access Bank Visa card, UBA Africard and GTB Naira Mastercard.

Add the card to your Adwords account and use it to load any amount you want to spend into the Adwords account. When people click on your ad, the charges will be deducted from the balance in your Adwords account.

Once you exhaust your balance, the ad will stop running and Google will alert you to add more funds to your account if you want your ad to keep running.

Whether you're looking to bring in new readers or keep them coming back for more, you can give it a try, may be starting with $10.

What's your take on this?
