As the internet users grow by the day in Nigeria, one of the challenges of growing the eCommerce side of it has largely been online payment solution. Last week, a client contacted me from Russia, to sponsor a post on my blog and decided to pay me using Western union money transfer. After receiving the MTCN and other details needed for me to cash the money, I went to a nearby bank only to be told that the person in charge is not on the desk.

Instead of wasting my precious time waiting, I went back to the office to try Quickteller.com because I've seen their adverts claiming one can use the site to cash western union money transfers in Nigeria.  After filling all the details required to receive my money, I waited for it to be verified.

Konga Escrow Payment System : How It Works

Konga.com, a top Nigerian online shopping website has integrated escrow payment system into their ecommerce platform. The escrow service will ensure that all payments are only made to sellers on Konga marketplace once delivery has been confirmed by the buyer. i.e Konga will only pay sellers when buyers are happy with the product.

In other to ensure buyers and sellers are satisfied during any sales process, the Konga Escrow system has been developed working with Nigeria’s leading banks to provide 100% buyer protection. Konga Escrow allows for secured and easy payment online without exposing your ATM/Debit Card details.

How It Works

Konga escrow System

  1.  Buyer pays for order via Konga Escrow

  2.  Seller delivers order to Buyer

  3.  Konga Escrow releases payment to Seller

Konga Escrow verifies the payment details for every transaction and will only give the seller the go ahead to ship the order after payment confirmation.

Payment will be made to the seller if no order delivery confirmation is received within the time frame set by the seller as regards the return policy for a particular product. This could either  be 7, 14 or 30 days.

With the Konga Escrow system, shoppers can also get amazing discounts and offers available to verified account holders on Konga.

What's your take on this?

How To Activate Verve Cards For Online Transactions at Nigeria ATMs

If one of the Nigerian banks that issue Verve cards issued one to you, you can use the card to pay for online transactions only if you have registered it for the Interswitch safetoken service. This is a system that generates a 6-8 digit One-Time-Password (OTP) whenever a transaction is initiated via the Interswitch Web Payment Platform.

Registering for the Safetoken enables you carry out transactions on any web merchant site that has integrated the Interswitch Payment gateway using a One Time Password (OTP) as a second level authentication process in addition to your Card Number, PIN and CVV2 code.

Verve logo

For you to be able generate OTP for your Verve card whenever you are carrying out a transaction with it, you will first have to register it for the safetoken service.

You can do that at a nearest ATM by following the steps below:

==> At the ATM, insert your Verve card

==> Input your 4-digit PIN and press Enter

==> Select your bank account type eg Savings or Current

==> Select the ‘Quickteller’ option from the ATM menu screen

==> Select ‘Pay Bills’ from the Quickteller menu list on the ATM screen

==> Select ‘Others’ for the bill payment menu option list

==> Enter ‘322222” as the Biller Code

==> Enter your Phone Number as the Customer Reference Number and select ‘Proceed’

==> You will get a display “Do you want to make this payment?” Amount Due:N1. (DO NOT edit the amount to be paid)

==> Click on “Pay amount due

You will then get a confirmation page indicating the registration was successful.

That's all.

Thereafter, if you want to pay online with your verve card and you get to a stage where you are prompted to enter an OTP, you will get the OTP via SMS which you will use to complete your online transaction. If you add the verve card to the Quickteller mobile application, you will also be able to generate an OTP from the application.

Receiving Payment by Amazon Gift Card From Non-Nigerians

Few days back,a non-Nigerian internet marketer contacted me for an advert slot on my blog. He offered to pay me via PayPal but I replied him that I'm currently having some problem with my PayPal account.

He agreed to send the funds to me if I can come up with an alternative to Paypal. While thinking about the easiest way I can receive money from a non-Nigerian, Amazon Gift Cards came to my mind. I mailed him that he can use his money to buy a gift card for me at amazon.com. I also sent him a link on how to buy the gift card.

This morning while checking my mail, I received a notification from amazon.com to redeem a gift card. I followed the link to redeem the gift card and the dollar amount on the gift card was successfully added to my amazon.com account.

gift card balance

I can use the fund when next I want to shop on Amazon.com and ship to Nigeria. The balance will never expire. I can also use it to buy Amazon Gift card too.

So, when next a non-Nigerian wants to pay you, you can tell him or her to buy Amazon gift card for you. It's better than accepting Paypal funds which might get trapped in your PayPal account or that of your friend, if it gets limited.

If you know other ways of receiving payments from non-Nigerians, please share them via comments.

Cheers!

How I Reset Africard Password Without Going To UBA Bank

Last week, while trying to check the balance of my Africard  at myUBAafricard.com, I couldn't remember my password. After trying some passwords, my account was locked and I saw an alert that I should visit the issuing bank.

Few days later, I visited the UBA branch where I obtained the Visa card to know what I need to do to resolve the issue. I was told to write a letter, requesting for password reset. I wrote the letter, making sure it includes my name, Africard number and phone number. I submitted the letter and was told that I will receive my new passcode via email and SMS within few days.

Three days later, I received a mail from the bank that my Africard PIN has been changed. I was surprised because I requested for password reset and NOT PIN change. (The PIN is for use on ATM machines and not the one for online access). I tried to log on to the Africard site with the PIN and it didn't work. It became obvious to me that the bank carried out a PIN change and not password reset.

Immediately, I called the phone number at the back of my Africard, using the phone number I provided when applying for the card. I complained to the customer service agent that my PIN was changed instead of password reset. She apologized for the mix-up and promised to rest it for me over the phone if I can provide the neccessary info she needs to verify that am the true owner of the card,

I provided answers to all the questions she asked me and within 10 minutes, I received my temporary passcode for the Africard website via email and SMS. I logged on to the site with it and immediately changed the password to one I could easily remember.

Right now, I can check my card balance, transactions history etc from the website.

I hope this helps.

MyUBAafricard.com: Website To Check Balance of Africard

If you are a UBA Visa AfriCard holder, you can get a history of transactions spent on the Prepaid Card via the card management system which is available on the internet at www.myUBAafricard.com.

At the Africard website you can also transfer fund from your VISA Africard to another card; get a mini account statement and check the balance of your Prepaid Africard. For you to be able to check your card balance via the portal, you will need a web passcode (a four-digit code provided with your card, alongside the ATM PIN).

When logging in to the website for the first time, you will have to log in using your 16-digit Africard Number and the Passcode. Once successfully logged in, the card management system will prompt you to set your Username and change your Africard web passcode. Thereafter, you can be accessing the site with your new Username and passcode.

Right on the site, you will see the current balance of your Africard as well as the list of transactions including their ID, descriptions, Amount, fees, etc. You can activate Verified by Visa via the site as well as deactivate your account if you want to.

Do you also use the site? Are you OK with the features of the site? Please, let me hear from you via comments.
