Essential Tips to Remember For Good Oral Hygiene

Good oral hygiene is essential to a happy and healthy life. If you skip out on proper oral hygienic practices, you may be putting yourself at risk of developing dental problems and dealing with the discomfort and costs that come with them.

And since poor oral health is linked to serious illnesses, you could become more prone to conditions as serious as diabetes or heart disease. So it goes without saying that you should never take your oral health for granted.

Brush twice a day

If you don’t brush your teeth twice on a daily basis, plaque could build up and make you more prone to tooth decay and gum disease.

The best technique is to stroke the toothbrush with a short, circular motion at a 45-degree angle. When brushing your molars, the toothbrush should be positioned perpendicular to the lips, with the bristles resting gently on the surface of the teeth. Move it from the back of the mouth to the front with no sideways motion.

For the inner surfaces of your teeth, hold the brush so its head points toward the gum line. Then, brush every tooth vertically. Do this gently to avoid hitting the gums. Lastly, use the bristles to carefully clean your tongue.

Always take your time. Don’t be hasty, and spend half a minute on each of your mouth’s quadrants. Once you’re done, you can rinse your teeth with an antibacterial mouthwash for good measure.

Keep in mind that you should replace your toothbrush at least once every four months. If you have braces, you may need to use a special toothbrush or another tool to clean your teeth.

Floss daily

Your teeth can’t be completely clean if you don’t floss at least once a day. While the soft bristles of your toothbrush can thoroughly remove plaque from the surface of your teeth, getting rid of the food particles between them is a job for the dental floss.

Just remember to be careful when inserting the floss between your teeth. Do it gently so you won’t damage your gums. And if you have braces, you can use a wooden or plastic dental pick in lieu of floss.

Use fluoride

Fluoride is the mineral in your toothpaste and mouthwash that improves the strength of enamel and prevents tooth decay. You can also ask your dentist if you want to have fluoride applied on your teeth.

However, young children should use it sparingly; copious amounts of it can lead to tooth discoloration and gastrointestinal distress. In fact, your dentist will most likely tell you to use only a small amount of fluoride-filled toothpaste whenever you brush your teeth.

Applying too much toothpaste may put you at risk of ingesting fluoride, which can be very detrimental to your health.

Maintain a healthy diet

The food you eat can have a significant impact on the health of your teeth. Did you know that a diet that consists of dairy products, fruits, vegetables and other whole foods can help keep your teeth and gums resilient against damage? It is also believed that the omega-3 fatty acids can help prevent and alleviate sore, swollen and bleeding gums.

It is important to avoid binging on sweet food. When simple sugars are broken down, they produce acids that damage tooth enamel, thus causing tooth decay. Sipping on soft drinks or juices is also not advisable, as it can cause avid levels to rise for extended periods.

Say no to tobacco

Tobacco is notorious for causing tooth discoloration. What’s more, long-term smoking is proven to increase the risk of gum disease. Whether you smoke cigarettes or just chew tobacco, you should think about kicking the habit as soon as possible.

Say yes to that piece of gum

Did you know that sugar-free gum can help prevent oral health problems? Chewing it helps increase the flow of saliva and gets rid of harmful bacteria. What’s more, it can help you quit smoking cold turkey and avoid eating unhealthy snacks.

Protect your teeth from trauma

If you engage in strenuous physical activities on a regular basis, wear protective gear. Aside from putting on a helmet if you are skateboarding, biking or engaging in any other intense activity, make sure that your teeth are protected. Wear a mouth guard to minimize the risk of mouth injury.

Visit your dentist

While there are proven home remedies to stop a toothache, you should not underestimate the importance of regular dental appointments. Be sure to schedule an appointment with your dental practitioner at least once every six months.

Aside from giving your teeth a thorough cleanse, your dentist can identify any semblance of decay as well as early signs of oral cancer and gum disease.

With good oral hygiene, you can avoid discomfort and expensive treatments, and of course, have a sparkling smile. Follow proper hygienic practices, and you will have healthy teeth and gums for a lifetime.

Tips to Choose a Nursing Home For Our Aged Parents

The article is penned by Avisha Jain who is professional content writer and has written many articles on health and fitness that have been published in health magazines and blogs online.

nursing home

No one cherishes the thought of putting their loved one in a nursing home but at times that is the only choice. Once all other alternatives have been tried such as letting her live with the family or having the family take turns allowing them to live with them or having them living on their own, it will be time to find best health care facility for the type of care that your loved one needs. The best facility would be ones that are convenient to as many family members as it can possibly be. You also want to make sure that it will provide the high-quality care that your loved one needs such as a secured environment if they have Dementia, chronic medical condition, or some type of physical or mental disability along with a supportive environment.

In order to find the best nursing homes that meet all these criteria assemble potential nursing homes that are centrally located for all members of the family in a notebook. When looking for one look to see what their ratings are in regards to one to five stars and what others have said about their services, both pros and cons and make notes. When looking at the star ratings you need to see what there are in three critical respects which are:

  • The amount and kind of nursing staff available

  • The diligence of the facility in meeting state safety and health standards

  • The nursing home's performance in key behavioral and medical measures such as whether the residents of the facility get enough help with their daily activities, are they receiving their annual flu shots, etc.images (20)

Once you have all of this data it is time to choose several of the best nursing homes so you can visit them. Before you visit the nursing homes you should have a list of questions that you want to ask and make notes of the answers. You also want to observe the staff's attitude toward the residents and how attentive they are to the residents. In addition to observing the staff you also need to look at the cleanliness of the home, if there are any safety hazards, the type of food offered, if the residents are clean, etc. Narrow your choices of best nursing homes down and make trips to them at different days and times so you can see how it operates at other times. If possible take your loved one with you on one of your visits to get their input.

Do not make a rush decision but take your time to make sure that your loved one gets in one of the best nursing homes possible.

Get Rid of That Nasty Cough for Good!

A cough, especially a persistent one, can be quite troublesome and uncomfortable. Coughs can be caused by an excess of population or by consuming sweets or extremely cold substances. Coughing is also considered by many as a way for the body to remove harmful viruses and mucus which may have accumulated in the throat. While some prefer having a glass of warm brandy to sooth the throat during the winter months, some
prefer to opt for cough syrups that could also provide relief. However, the problems with cough syrups is that they contain a certain amount of alcohol that can make you feel extremely drowsy, leaving you with the desire to sleep.
Listed below are some home remedies to get rid of that persistent cough that you may be dealing with:
You could always opt to add some maple syrup to baking soda mix to help stop the cough. However, make sure that you only have a tablespoon of the mixture.
Take at least 2-3 cloves of garlic and boil them in milk for around 2-3 minutes. The taste could be quite unpleasant but it helps in stifling that cough that you are suffering from
The Germans truly believe that thyme is the best remedy for a cough. The leaves of thyme possess certain cough-suppressing compounds that help soothe and relax the throat muscles. You could always add a few leaves to boiling water and have it as a tea for immediate relief.
Black pepper is also considered by many as a great antidote to getting rid of coughs. It helps stimulate circulation. Make a tea with black peeper and some honey with boiling water. Strain the tea and then sip it and feel the relief. However, this mixture is not really suitable for dry coughs.
If you desire quick relief from a cough that is causing your discomfort, then squeezing a fresh lemon in your mouth is the best remedy. However, the taste is quite unbearable as you will need to add some black pepper and salt to the lemon before you suck on it.
One of the other good cures for a cough which has been used for centuries is to drink a cup of hot milk with some honey. This will give you relief.
Grind some almonds and add orange juice to it for fast relief from coughs. This remedy has been passed down from time immemorial and serves as an effective cure.

How To Get Rid Of Dry, Cracky Feets

Time after time any of us has experienced dryness of feet and even appearance of cracks. Depending on problems
with separate organs or health of the whole body, dry skin can appear in different areas throughout the body. As for dry feet, very often cracked skin or calluses is the reason. The problem of dry skin is known as xerosis. It can be considered as a cosmetic problem until it transforms into something more serious as for example itchiness, pain and even secondary infection. Skin thickens and becomes dry also because of some other reasons, such as problems with veins on legs, allergy, irritation, athlete`s foot and psoriasis. As for one of the most widespread reasons of dry skin on a child`s feet is atopic dermatitis.Basic causes of dry skin:
Very often physical stress may provoke dryness
of feet. When it is hot inside your shoes, then
water is lost and it results into thickening of
skin`s top layer. Heat and humidity are
dangerous especially when shoes are too tight.
Temperature may increase up to 120 degrees.
Some cosmetic products such as soaps, for
example, are removing oils from your skin and it
becomes dry. It happens because oil balance of
skin is violated.
Various diseases may cause this problem.
Diabetes and unhealthy diet are among them.
Lack of vitamin A or some acids such as alpha-
linolenic acid (ALA) and gamma-linolenic acid
(GLA), can be very serious reasons. Crohn's
disease that provokes digestive disorders may
lead to lack of these components.
Over the time our organism becomes exposed to
hormonal changes. Because of this fact
regeneration of skin cells is reduced and it results
into thickening of a layer of skin called stratum
corneum. Because of aging protective fat on our
feet become thinner. Because of its loss, skin
stress increases and cracks and calluses appear.
Condition of skin always becomes worse during
winter time. It is cold outside and home heating
makes the air dry which also influences our skin.
If creams and lotions don`t help you to cure
cracks and calluses then you should immediately
visit your podiatrist. He will help you to identify
the primary reason of these problems and will
prescribe you medications that will cure
secondary consequences. You shouldn`t worry
because calluses can be easily removed by him.
It is a very good way to improve the outlook of
your feet and avoid problems which may take
place in future. If you have extremely dry skin on
feet then he may prescribe some strong
moisturizing creams which consist of various
oils.

Healthy and beautiful feet:
To avoid or to get rid of problem of dry feet you
should use your foot cream systematically. It
would be great if it contains - hydroxy acid,
because it helps to peel dead cells and to make it
easier to moisturize deeper layers of skin.
Lanolin is an effective barrier which moisturizes
your skin and consequently it is very useful for
cracked feet. This ingredient is well known as a
product for breastfeeding mothers, but it can be
used by everyone.
If you have an allergy then you should choose
hypoallergenic cosmetics or products which are
intended for sensitive skin.
To remove rough areas from your feet you should
use pumice stone after bathing or just foot bath.
It effectively removes calluses and dead cells
from the layer of skin and it improves outlook of
your feet. In case if skin is too dry you can use
loofah sponge.
Intake of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and gamma-
linolenic acid (GLA) can improve your skin due to
decrease of water loss. They are contained in oil,
nuts and primrose oil which is usually consumed
in capsules.

Lose Weight Before Christmas Time!

With Christmas only a few weeks away, it is still not too late to lose those unwanted pounds and get fit for the festive season.

Before you start on an effective fat burning regime, you need to first get into the right state of mind and put your entire focus on your goal for the next few weeks.
And what is more - I am going to do it with you! I had surgery to pin my foot together after an accident, so put on a few pounds while I was out of action - so it's time for me to get back on the bike - literally!
Step 1
Set you fat burning goal.
How much weight do you REALISTICALLY want to shed before Christmas?
I am setting my target at one stone - roughly 2 pounds a week. My motivation will be how I will look and feel by the time Christmas arrives, and the fact that the timescale is short. You have to choose what will work for you
Step 2
Decide on your fat burning exercise programme. There are hundreds that you can choose from, so let me make it easy. Fat burning is best achieved through a combination of careful eating (note - not Dieting!) and an effective fat burning exercise programme. Head over to the website at the end of the article for a free video showing you how to do this:
Step 3
Having chosen an effective fat burning exercise process, now you need to make the right food choices. Aim to take at least 1200 calories a day, but you may need more depending on your size and metabolism. It has been proven that 1200 a day will assist the loss of about 2 pounds a week, without stressing your body or making you feel hungry.
So, what should you be eating?
  • Let's start by what you should avoid over the next few weeks. Steer clear of fat - obvious but necessary. So you will need to bin the chips, fried food and anything else with a high fat content.

  • Look for lean meat and fish to provide you with the protein that you will need. Grilled chicken is also a great source of protein and like many of these types of lean food, will help you to feel fuller for longer and provide you with the fat burning fuel for your exercise regime

  • Make sure you get your 5 a day - fruit and veg. If you feel the need to snack, use fruit as a healthy alternative to stuff like cake, biscuits and crisps.

  • Stay hydrated. Often, when you feel hungry, you are in fact thirsty, so drink as much water as you need to stay fully hydrated. One delicious way to get the correct amount is to mix one part cranberry juice with four parts water. This tastes great and has the added benefit of boosting your fat burning potential.

  • Look for more sources of fibre. This will help to maintain a healthy bowel, but fibre is another great food for making you feel fuller for longer. It is also calorie free so make sure you get a good fix of fibre at the start of the day - porridge flavored with cinnamon is a great way to start the day
Step 4
Monitor your progress. Keep a record of how you are getting on - otherwise how are you going to know!

Effective Health Tips For Women

Living a healthy life begins with adopting a healthy lifestyle. What we do every day of our lives has a lot to do with the quality of our health. Here are a few simple and effective health tips for women who live in this modern day and age.

Learn to laugh and be a happy person
Contrary to popular belief, happiness is not dependent on external circumstances. Happiness is more an attitude of the heart. People who resolve to be happy would not be swayed by external circumstances. Their joyful outlook would in fact turn the circumstances around for them. Laughter dispels stress, lowers blood pressure and strengthens the immune system. Be happy, and you will find that your health improves considerably.
Start the day right with a sumptuous breakfast
Never ever skip breakfast. If you start the day wrong, you are already putting your wrong foot forward. Even if you have to wake up 15 minutes earlier in order to accommodate breakfast into your morning schedule, do it. It is the first step towards eating right. When you eat well in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism and helps to burn fat more efficiently throughout the day. A simple mix of oatmeal, raisins, nuts and some fruits are sufficient to get you started for the day.
Get Sufficient Sleep
In order to wake up early, you need to go to bed a little early as well. Most people sit before the television set till they get sleepy. They assume that they need some entertainment after a hard day's work. But in reality, most people watch shows that get them emotionally charged or drained, which adds more stress to their mind. This often makes it difficult to have a restful sleep.
Sticking to a regular schedule trains the body to function at its optimum best. This has a profound positive effect on one's health. If at all you need to watch a show that airs beyond your bedtime, record it and watch it later when you have nothing else to do.
Eat Colorful Foods
Certain foods have bright colors for a good reason - they are good for your health. Blueberries, carrots, arugula and various fruits and vegetables that are brightly colored are very good for your health. They contain powerful compounds that reduce inflammation and improve general health.
As you might have noticed, living healthy has a lot to do with adopting a healthy lifestyle. It might be a little difficult in the beginning. But once it becomes a routine, living healthy would become second nature to you. Once you taste good health, you would never want to be sick ever again.

Causes, Types And Treatment Of Painful Menstruation(Dysmenorrhoea)

Although menstruation in women should be, and often painless. Many women suffer from the discomfort triggered by pain during their periods at some time during thier reproductory life. Dysmenorrhoea, also known as painful menstruation can be classified into

 Two main types, namely
  •  Primary or Spasmodic dysmenorrhoea
  • secondary or Congestive dysmenorrhoea.

 Primary or spasmodic dysmenorrhoea:
This is the commonest type of dysmenorrhoea and it usually occurs in girls or young women. The pain is spasmodic in nature(resembling a sudden contraction of the muscles). Usually starting on the first day of the period. It may last for several hours or continue through out the day and towards the next day. Sometimes the mentrual flow is scanty at first and the pain becomes lighter when the flow is properly established. The acute pain may be followed by a dull ache, nausea and vomitting and sometimes diarrhoea, headace and fainting may occur. The continuation of dysmenorrhoea to the age of 30 is more common in unmarried than married women.
 Causes of Spasmodic dysmenorrhoea:
You should know that the pain is due to the spasm of the uterine muscle,() which is sufficient to cause ischaemia. The cause of the spasm is not certain but various factors have being discussed.
  1. Cervical obstruction.
  2.  Hormonal imbalance.
  3.  Prostaglandin{natural occurring lipids}
  4. Psychological factors
  5. Nerve pathways

Treatment:
  1.  Correct any cause of emotional stress
  2.  During attack, take a hot bath and then relax in bed with a hot water bottle.
  3.  Analgestic drugs such as aspirin, codeine or dihydrocodeine should be prescribed but you should stay away habit forming drugs such as morphine, pethidine or alcohol. Anti spasmodic drugs such as atropine are usually ineffective.
  4. Suppress ovulation, the easiest way for these is  to prescribe one of combined oral contraceptive preparations using pill containing 20 to 30 micro gram of oestrogen or an oral progestogen such as dydrogesterone(duphaston) will be helpful in the doses 10mg daily by mouth from days 5 to 25 of each cycle. Note: this is not suitable for someone who wishes to become pregnant.
  5. Drugs which inhibits the production of prostaglandins in the endometrium may diminish myometrial contractions{contraction of the smooth muscles forming the walls of the uterus} and therefore relieve dysmenorrhoea.

Secondary or congestive dysmenorrhoea:
Congestive dysmenorrhoea is mainly caused by a pelvic inflammatory disease and endometriosis {the mucus membrane that lines the uterus, the fertilized egg implants is implanted} it  arises from an increased blood supply in the area caused by pelvic disease. .The pain is a dull ache in the lower abdomen and back, sometimes extending to the thigh.
An acute colicky pain may occur if a fibromyomatous {a benign uterine tumour} polyp is pushed or trusted  out through the cervix, and in some women an intrauterine contraceptive device will cause colicky.

The treatment for congestive dysmenorrhoea is to treat the type of pelvic diseases that triggers the painful menstruation.
Types of pelvic diseases
  • Menorrhagia
  • Dyspareunia
  • Infertility
In subsequent posts i will be treating the types of pelvic diseases in details.
Stay tuned!

Every Child Needs a Father

A child who grows up in a restless environment is unconfident, sorrowful, disobedient, rebellious, stubborn, jealous and aggressive. In later years, these children suffer from developmental disorders in education and are frequently punished for offenses resulting from an environment lacking the cooperation between the father and the mother and their joint care. A child needs the father - and if it does not have him, it wants to know the reason why. Fathers involvement in the upbringing of children represents the masculine element that is so important for the child as a maturing young boy/girl. Fatherly leadership gives a child's character a direction and the father's action and behaviour represents protection, safety and support for the child.

For a child of preschool age, the father is a representative of the world of men, his presence and the upbringing the child receives from him enrich the child with further knowledge, he makes the child familiar with many other activities that mothers usually do not pursue, the father is usually the child's first sports teacher, teacher of professional subjects, he teaches and familiarizes the child with things associated with the maintenance of the household. The father usually plays a crucial role model for a boy; for a girl, he is the first perfect man. Most children are proud of their fathers and of the things he has done in his life. Nevertheless, there are also children who cannot speak highly about their fathers; there are children who disguise their fathers' offenses, misdemeanours and weaknesses; children who feel ashamed of their fathers; and there are children who prefer not to hear of their fathers. These are the children whose fathers have disappointed them, who did not experience fatherly love, but knew his weaknesses.
Even nowadays children are physically punished for misdemeanours that they have committed. Corporal punishments may silence a child and force it to obey the stronger adult. If a child is forced by parents to confess to something that it did not do, it is a wrong that the child will remember for many years; a grievance that the boy or girl will never forget and for which he or she will never forgive the parents. A modern child looks for authority in its father, but it also wants him to be its lifelong friend.
One of the greatest educational values is a child's feeling that the parents support it in failure and in moments of crisis. Such support is provided by both parents, but not to the same extent. Mothers have an instinctive understanding of what is going on with their children, they are able to sense their children's problems and the feeling of uncertainty even when the child says nothing. The father shows a child the way and direction.
A child is impressed by a father who can bear the brunt of challenging life situations; a father who plays with the child while it is small, helps the child build its dreams while maturing and helps it plan its career when choosing a profession. A child is impressed by a father who is clever with his hands, who helps the mother maintain the household, who does not cry when sick, but teaches the child courage and self-reliance as he serves as an example. In broken families without a father the upbringing of a child is more difficult, because the child is lacking a male role model.

How to Help a Teenager Who Says He Or She Wants to Die

What an important topic! It is true that teenagers these days experience a lot of stress and emotional pain, and often feel overwhelmed. Often, a teenager who says they want to die are experiencing profoundly overwhelming emotions and confusion, and are letting you know that they are in extreme emotional pain and need help. Sometimes when a teen says he/she wants to die it may mean they are an immediate risk for suicide.

1. No matter which option, this statement needs to be taken seriously
If a teenager says, "I want to die, I want to kill myself, or I'm going to commit suicide", always take the statement seriously and immediately seek assistance from a qualified mental health professional. I know that you may feel uncomfortable talking to your teen about wanting to die, or even contemplating suicide. If they have brought it up to you (or even if they haven't directly) they need to talk about it. Rather than putting thoughts in the teens head, asking about their feelings will provide assurance that you care and will give them the chance to talk about their problems.
Depression and suicidal feelings are treatable disorders. The child or adolescent needs to have his or her deep pain recognized and diagnosed, and appropriate treatment plan developed. When parents are in doubt whether their child has a serious problem, a psychiatric examination can be very helpful.
2. Here's some information on teen suicide
Suicides among young people continue to be a serious problem. Each year in the U.S., thousands of teenagers commit suicide. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year-olds and the sixth leading cause of death for 5 to 14 year-olds.
Recently released statistics reveal that approximately three million youths, aged 12 to 17, either thought seriously about suicide or attempted suicide in 2000. More than one third, 37 percent, actually tried to kill themselves. Most were suffering from undiagnosed or untreated clinical depression. An estimated 75 percent of all those who commit suicide give some warning of their lethal intentions by mentioning their feelings of despair to a friend or family member.
Many of the signs and symptoms of suicidal feelings are similar to those of depression. Parents should be aware of the following signs of adolescents who may try to kill themselves:
  • change in eating and sleeping habits
  • withdrawal from friends, family, and regular activities
  • violent actions, rebellious behavior, or running away
  • drug and alcohol use
  • unusual neglect of personal appearance
  • marked personality change
  • persistent boredom, difficulty concentrating, or a decline in the quality of schoolwork
  • frequent complaints about physical symptoms, often related to emotions, such as stomachaches, headaches, fatigue, etc.
  • loss of interest in pleasurable activities
  • not tolerating praise or rewards
A teenager who is planning to commit suicide may also:
  • complain of being a bad person or feeling rotten inside
  • give verbal hints with statements such as 'I won't be a problem for you much longer', 'Nothing matters', 'It's no use', and 'I won't see you again'
  • put his or her affairs in order, for example, give away favorite possessions, clean his or her room, throw away important belongings, etc.
  • become suddenly cheerful after a period of depression
  • have signs of psychosis (hallucinations or bizarre thoughts)
If one or more of these signs occurs, parents need to talk to their child about their concerns and seek professional help from a physician or a qualified mental health professional.
3. Realize that being a teen can be really tough these days
Adolescence is a stressful experience for all teens. It is a time of physical and social change with hormones producing rapid mood swings from sadness to elation. Lack of life experience may result in impulsive behavior or poor decisions. The teenager's brain is "under construction" and is not fully formed until age 25. This includes areas such as forethought, planning, and delayed gratification.
Even an emotionally healthy youngster may have constant fears of "not being good enough" to be asked out on a date, make the varsity team, or get good grades. Special situations such as parental divorce or the breakup of a dating relationship may trigger intense sadness and feelings of wanting to die.
For a teen suffering from severe or chronic depression, feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness magnify and dominate waking hours. The ratio of "sad" to "happy" moments becomes lopsided. Despair is ever- present and emotional pain feels like it will never end. Any situation of anger or disappointment may cause a fragile youngster to cross the line from wanting to die to actually attempting suicide.
Unfortunately, adolescents do not wear a sign saying whether they are temporarily sad or chronically depressed. External indicators such as clothing, music preferences, grades, or even attitude are not accurate indicators of propensity for suicide.
All statements regarding suicidal ideation and/or concrete plans need to be taken seriously by adults.
Chronic hopelessness, harsh self-criticism, and feeling unlovable and unwanted, create a pain that cannot be described. Some severely depressed teens try to rid themselves of this awful feeling by self-medicating with alcohol or other drugs. Others self-injure by cutting, burning, biting or even breaking their own bones in an effort to release the excruciating self-hatred.
Fortunately, most teens will communicate this pain through conversations or writings. Our job as adults is to provide both an ear and a path to professional help when this information is shared.
Depression is a treatable disease and, with proper intervention, most suicidal teens can be helped to lead long and productive lives.
4. What to do when a teen says he/she wants to die or is suicidal
Talk to them by letting them know:
  • I care about you. I do not want you to die. I would miss you so much, you are so important to me.
  • Ask them "what is causing you so much pain?" Listen, listen, listen and do not try to be logical or talk them out of their pain. At that moment the person can't think of the future, they can only think about now. They are preoccupied with a painful past and present. You are trying to accomplish two things -- give them someone to listen to them fully so they know they are loved and cared about, and to get valuable information about their frame of reference.
  • Ask them, if you could wave a magic wand and could change your life, what would you change? This will give you important information about where they are experiencing pain, and what in their life feels like it won't change.
  • Tell them a part of them wants to live (even if it is tiny). Tell them again you want to help them to live, and will get them help.
  • Let them know you are taking them seriously. You might say, "Look, you let me know you were feeling suicidal. If you didn't want help, you would never have said anything to me, so I'm not going to let it go. Come on. Both of us will go see someone." This kind of response lets the person know how serious you are and how much you care. It brings them back in touch with that part that wants to live. In most cases they will agree to see someone after hearing this. If they still insist on not talking and take off, it is critical that someone who can get to that youngster be told immediately.
  • Tell them that even if they have no hope for them, you have hope, and they can barrow some of your hope for them.

5. Realize that you are an important person to them, or they would not have told you anything at all.You are already a safe person that they trust and are hoping can help them. By acknowledging their feelings of devastation or depression you will continue to build a strong relationship with them. Your listening to them and trying to understand them will help the teen feel like there is help available. You are really important to them, and you matter to them. Do not feel like you have to take the burden of what they've shared completely on yourself. There are medical and mental health professionals you can enlist who can help the teen who has confided in you.
6. Try to assess if the threat is immediate, ask
"Have you thought about how you might do this?" If they say I have a gun, pills, etc. in my car/in my room that shows they have a plan and are at high risk -- you need to get help right away by calling 911, their parents, their primary care doctor, anyone. Don't send them home by themselves, even if they insist they are fine or were just kidding. If they really want to end their life, they will be mad at you for taking action, but getting them immediate help is more important than their displeasure with you. Most likely, later they will understand. If you begin to doubt the wisdom of getting psychological help, ask yourself if you would hesitate taking your child to a doctor if his leg was broken just because she "did not want to go."
Because of the thin line that exists between "having an idea" and "acting on that idea," it is critical that any suicide threat be taken seriously. If your child says he or she wants to die and/or shares a suicide plan there is no time to speculate whether the words are "real" or if the "mood will pass."
If the threat does not seem immediate, do not take a risk -- let the teens parents know, make sure they get an appointment with their primary care doctor, go to ER, etc. While both "situationally unhappy" and "clinically depressed" teens may become suicidal, the second group is more likely to have a plan and materials necessary to carry out this project successfully.
If you are the parent, and it is daytime, call your primary physician for immediate help. If the doctor is not available, many communities have mental health hot-lines offering guidance or a 24-hour center where psychiatric emergencies can be evaluated. If all else fails, calling 911 or your local police will generate needed assistance.
If the threat is not immediate, it is still important to follow up with a psychological evaluation. Again, your primary physician should be able to provide you with an appropriate referral. If you don't know if the threat is immediate, err on the side of taking action sooner.
Realize that sometimes wanting to die is a sign of clinical depression, which means that chemical changes have taken place in the teens brain to the point that medication is needed for a time to restore balance in the brain chemicals. An evaluation by a psychiatrist and/or primary care doctor is needed to determine the course of treatment. Multiple research has found that the best treatment for depression is a combination of medication and talk therapy.
I hope this has been helpful for you in helping the teens in your life. You are very important to them, and you and your relationship with them matters.

How Youngsters Might Express Suicidal Thoughts

One of the problems in assessing suicidal risk in a young person is that they often don't say much at all. As every counselor knows, even under more favorable circumstances, getting youngsters to really talk to you can be a challenge in itself. Just having a discussion with a youngster can end up with the adult doing most of the talking.

Behavior can speak volumes, and we should pay attention to it. To get to a youngster's thoughts, however, we need to communicate with them.
In my preparation for a radio show on this topic, I remembered something I picked up some time ago. It's a simple three-component diagnostic tool for helping to assess suicidal risk in a young person, although it would work very well with adults, also. It relates to a youngster's perception, their take, on the circumstances they are facing in terms of three "I"s: Inescapable, Interminable and Intolerable. This tool can provide a therapist or a counselor with much-needed information.
Although it's rare a youngster will speak in these terms directly, listen closely, because what they do say might come from one or even all three of these "I"s. Let's look at a few examples how the child or adolescent might express them:
INESCAPABLE: "I feel trapped;" "I can't get away from it;" "I'm stuck; I can't move."
INTERMINABLE: "It's NEVER going to end;" "It will always be like this;" "It will NEVER stop."
INTOLERABLE: "I just can't take it anymore;" "It's more than I can stand;" "It's too much for me to handle."
Listening for references to Inescapable, Interminable and Intolerable just might help one capture and reframe a youngster's perspective, as they move to replace hopelessness with elements of authentic hope.
In the end, it might even save a life. ###

What Is Dementia? And What Are Signs and Symptoms of Dementia?

Dementia is not a single disease in itself, but a general term to describe symptoms such as impairments to memory, communication and thinking.

While the likelihood of having dementia increases with age, it is not a normal part of aging. Before we had today's understanding of specific disorders, "going senile" used to be a common phrase for dementia ("senility"), which misunderstood it as a standard part of getting old.
Light cognitive impairments, by contrast, such as poorer short-term memory, can happen as a normal part of aging (we slowly start to lose brain cells as we age beyond our 20s3). This is known as age-related cognitive decline, not dementia, because it does not cause the person or the people around them any problems.1 Dementia describes two or more types of symptom that are severe enough to affect daily activities.
Symptoms that are classed as "mild cognitive impairment" - which, unlike cognitive decline, are not a normal part of aging - do not qualify as dementia either, since these symptoms are not severe enough.1 For some people though, this milder disease leads to dementia later on.
An analysis of the most recent census estimates that 4.7 million people aged 65 years or older in the US were living with Alzheimer's disease in 2010.5 The Alzheimer's Association has used this analysis to number-crunch the extent of the disorder in its 2013 report. It estimates that:
Just over a tenth of people aged 65 years or more have Alzheimer's disease.
This proportion rises to about a third of people aged 85 and older.
The non-profit organization says Alzheimer's accounts for between 60% and 80% of all cases of dementia, with vascular dementia caused by stroke being the second most common type.
Signs and symptoms
Memory loss in dementia can be serious enough for the person to forget where they are, even on their home street.
The symptoms of dementia experienced by patients, or noticed by people close to them, are exactly the same signs that healthcare professionals look for. Therefore, detailed information on these is given in the next section about tests and diagnosis.
A person with dementia may show any of the following problems, mostly due to memory loss - some of which they may notice (or become frustrated with) themselves, while others may only be picked up by carers or healthcare workers as a cause for concern. The signs used to compile this list are published by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) in the journal American Family Physician:6
Recent memory loss - a sign of this might be asking the same question repeatedly, forgetting about already asking it.
Difficulty completing familiar tasks - for example, making a drink or cooking a meal, but forgetting and leaving it.
Problems communicating - difficulty with language by forgetting simple words or using the wrong ones.
Disorientation - with time and place, getting lost on a previously familiar street close to home, for example, and forgetting how they got there or would get home again.
Poor judgment - the AAFP says: "Even a well person might get distracted and forget to watch a child for a little while. People with dementia, however, might forget all about the child and just leave the house for the day."
Problems with abstract thinking - for example, dealing with money.
Misplacing things - including putting them in the wrong places and forgetting about doing this.
Mood changes - unlike those we all have, swinging quickly through a set of moods.
Personality changes - becoming irritable, suspicious or fearful, for example.
Loss of initiative - showing less interest in starting something or going somewhere.

Treatment of dementia: depends on its cause. In the case of most progressive dementias, including Alzheimer's disease, currently their is no cure and no treatment that could stop its progression. But there are drug treatments that may temporarily improve symptoms. The same medications used to treat Alzheimer's are among the drugs sometimes prescribed to help with symptoms of other types of dementias. Non-drug therapies can also alleviate some symptoms of dementia.

research is currently going on to configure an effective treatment for dememtia.

Dementia's risk and prevention

Some risk factors for dementia, such as age and genetics, cannot be changed. But researchers continue to explore the impact of other risk factors on brain health and prevention of dementia. Some of the most active areas of research in risk reduction and prevention include cardiovascular factors, physical fitness, and diet.

Cardiovascular risk factors: Your brain is nourished by one of your body's richest networks of blood vessels. Anything that damages blood vessels anywhere in your body can damage blood vessels in your brain, depriving brain cells of vital food and oxygen. Blood vessel changes in the brain are linked to vascular dementia. They often are present along with changes caused by other types of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. These changes may interact to cause faster decline or make impairments more severe. You can help protect your brain with some of the same strategies that protect your heart – don't smoke; take steps to keep your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar within recommended limits; and maintain a healthy weight.

Physical exercise: Regular physical exercise may help lower the risk of some types of dementia. Evidence suggests exercise may directly benefit brain cells by increasing blood and oxygen flow to the brain.

Diet: What you eat may have its greatest impact on brain health through its effect on heart health. The best current evidence suggests that heart-healthy eating patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet, also may help protect the brain. A Mediterranean diet includes relatively little red meat and emphasizes whole grains, fruits and vegetables, fish and shellfish, and nuts, olive oil and other healthy fats.

Love To Eat? But hate Your Belly After? Here's An Easy Way To Handle Both Issues!

For some reason, our bodies love to hang fat around our mid-section. Or, maybe the fact is that fat just loves to hang around our mid-section. Regardless of which is the cause, the truth of the matter is that fat around the mid-section can be ugly, uncomfortable, and can cause a host of health problems that we could all do without.

Excess belly fat has been associated with heart disease, Type II Diabetes, and even breast cancer. Sometimes it seems that, no matter how diligently we diet and exercise, we still have that "spare tire" around the waistline that just hangs on, even when we effectively lose fat and inches from other parts of the body. The frustration can almost make one want to give up. Don't Give Up! There Is Good News!
Researchers have discovered that it is actually possible to shrink belly fat with food - the right food, that is. Eating the right foods can turn your body into a fat-burning powerhouse to which even stubborn belly fat will have to surrender! Fiber - There are basically two types of fiber, and it is important to include plenty of both types in your diet:
1. Soluble Fiber is that which absorbs excess fluid and carries it from the body. It reduces the levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol, and is instrumental in maintaining a healthy digestive tract. Soluble fiber has been shown to be a key preventative dietary element in preventing colon cancer. It also takes longer to digest soluble fiber, and this slowing of the process helps to keep blood sugar levels stable, and decrease the frequency of hunger between meals.
Good sources of soluble fiber include: Oatmeal or oat bran, Barley, Prunes, Pears, Citrus Fruits, Legumes, Seeds, Nuts, Chick Peas, Black-Eyed Peas
2. Insoluble Fiber is that which does not easily absorb fluid, but does bind itself to toxins and other substances such as excess estrogen which are known to be cancer-inducing.
Good sources of insoluble fiber include: Bran, Cocoa Powder, Beans (including pinto, great northern, red, kidney, etc.), Rye Bread, Green Leafy Vegetables.
Muscle, unlike fat, does not sit idly in your body. In fact, it takes energy, which burns calories, just to maintain muscle. This means that a person who has a healthy ratio of protein to fat, will burn fat and calories just by sitting at rest. Fat, which pretty much lies inert, will just be content to take up space and crowd your organs
This combination makes for a double-punch to help eliminate belly fat. One caveat though: when choosing beans, be careful as to how they are cooked. Some bean dishes, such as baked beans, are prepared with unhealthy levels of fat and sugar.
Just remember: Your beans must be lean and mean! Monounsaturated Fats We usually think of oils and fats as being something to avoid if we are trying to lose weight and/or eat healthy. The truth of the matter is that some oils are not only good for the body, healthy monounsaturated fats such as olive oil are actually vital for optimum health of organs.
Other good sources of monounsaturated fats are: Olive Oil, Avocados, Peanut Butter, Nuts, Olives.
So, an healthy and balanced diet with moderate exercise should be included in any weight-loss regimen, given the approval of one's personal physician. But, incorporating a regimen of carefully planned foods such as those listed above will help your body to rid itself of that unsightly belly fat, and help you to enjoy a longer, healthier life!

Infertility with PCOS( Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

It is important to understand that success with fertility may be tied to getting to a healthy weight and then staying at a healthy weight. For many women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) who want to have a baby, their excess weight often gets in the way of their fertility and can be a tough problem to tackle.

Once a woman becomes overweight or obese her body is no longer efficient in using the excess body fat for energy and it decreases her fertility. It then becomes more likely she will have a harder time getting pregnant or may not be able to get pregnant at all. Fertility is usually positively affected by losing excess weight. Just 5% loss of extra body weight can get a woman on the road to better health all around, and it improves fertility too. A baby becomes much more likely as she loses the extra pounds.
For some women with PCOS the difficulty with getting pregnant and having a baby is strongly tied to what is happening with their blood sugar. Uneven blood sugar is often at the core of these fertility problems.
Uneven blood sugar is caused by eating too many sweets, grains, starches or other carbohydrates at any one time. When a woman does this, her body wants to go into fat storage mode and at a certain point the body's response to sugar becomes abnormal and the insulin is no longer as effective at getting energy into the body's cells.
So in a way the body thinks that it is not getting enough energy to begin and continue a pregnancy. A woman's body is highly sensitive to whether she has enough energy of the right kinds to sustain her pregnancy. Being pregnant takes a lot of energy. So anything that interferes with the body being able to access that energy in a normal healthy way will also interfere with conception, staying pregnant, and carrying a baby all the way through to birth.
Another fertility problem when the average blood sugar remains too high for too long over a period of time is that it causes problems with blood flow in the body's tiny blood vessels where all the exchange of nutrients and waste happen. When blood sugar is too high this leads to a process where extra-large particles made up of sugars bonded to proteins form in the blood. These extra-large particles can really slow down the blood flow in these tiny capillaries and can interfere with conception and maintaining a pregnancy.
If a woman wants to improve her fertility in the face of PCOS weight loss issues, it becomes extremely important for her to keep her blood sugar in a healthy range and avoid those blood sugar spikes. Regulating blood sugar and losing PCOS weight should lead to improved chances with fertility success and having a baby.

Water Is A Great Healer But It Also Can Kill You!

Do we know everything about water we should know? Water is important for our survival, preferably natural clean water without chemicals. Every day you can see people carrying a bottle of water, seeing the same in cars where the water bottles neatly stuck in bottle holders. Over the years we have become a water conscious society which must do something good for our health.

Somehow this water saga does get confusing. One report says never drink water straight from the tap; the other story tells us the water sold in plastic bottles is worse than tap water!
Many such claims based on theory rather on scientific facts. Never the less, let's keep an open mind on both theories and look at them individually.
The most conveniently and endless supply is tap water. How good is it? That depends on where you are and how many chemicals this water contains. No matter where you are no tap water is chemical free. How does tap water compare against our bottled water we often pay good money for? None of the answers are simple, but here are some facts!
Tap water, you've got it with the twist of your wrist!
With many taps in the house and around the garden it's just as accessible as flicking a switch for electricity or gas.
The difference is, the water we are drinking is important and needed by our body for different functions. The quality of water matters most, and this is not the water coming from the tap or out of a plastic bottle.
On this earth is no place where water from the tap is free of chemicals or from water purifiers used through the filtering system. There are big variations in water, even to that extent that the water from the tap today is not the same water from the tap tomorrow. This water is not going to kill you over night, but because of the chemicals some people are allergic to it can vary in ways with a variety of symptoms such as headaches, skin eruptions, loose bowels, constipation, coughing, etc.
High concentrations of toxic metals such as chromium have been found in many water supplies, many times above health safety. Chlorine is to kill bacteria in drinking water, and mixed with other particles it creates extremely products that may raise the risk of many illnesses, even cancer.
An estimated 3 million people die each year from water sanitation and hygiene related causes and most of them occur in our developing world.
The benefit of clean filtered water cannot be rated high enough as without it we would not be able to survive. The water a filtering system produces as in quality be high in PH, ORP anti-oxidant properties, high mineral content, and active hydrogen, similar to water that comes of a glacier or straight from a mountain spring.
Bottled water: Has it got any benefits besides the price we pay?
According to most reports: None! Some say it's no better than tap water, others say it is even worse.
Water in plastic bottles becomes toxic over time and is most effected when changes of temperature occurs. As this water sits in storage, shelfs or in the car where temperatures change to the extreme, the effect of leaching toxins from the plastic container into the water becomes more dominant through change of temperatures.
Women be aware!
Women may become most vulnerable by drinking this kind of water left in cars. There is evidence that women who drank this type of water contributed to breast cancer as the same toxic-dioxin was found in breast cancer tissues. At no time plastic containers ar safe using to heat food or drinks, not even pre prepared microwave meals because leaching from the plastic will occur.
The only safe containers to use are glass, Pyrex, ceramic, stainless, not all aluminium containers are safe because of lining that can also leach into the water.
Do not assume that bottled water is any more pure, healthier or safer than tap water.
How much clean water should we drink?
Yes, we need water, especially in hot weather. You should never let your body become dehydrated.
If you feel thirsty drink until your thirst has gone; never force yourself to drink water. Is it possible to drink too much water? While it is possible, it's rare for anyone to drink too much water. When consuming too much water some important minerals being flushed from your body. If your sodium level drops too low, it can lead to Hyponatremia. When your body retains too much water, it can cause cells to swell, and if this continues it becomes harmful to the brain and can even lead to death.
Some coaches and Gym instructors tell you to drink two litres or eight glasses of water every day. There is no scientific method behind such quantities. Do those people take into account of a person such as size and weight, fitness level, environment, altitude or any other factors that could affect the need of so much fluid?
Be aware, be your own judge. It's best to use thirst as your guide.
Being vigilant of what we consume because our health and life depends on it and the power of knowledge will give you the health you deserve!

15 Simple Ways to Enjoy Your Life

Many of us assume that we need to make drastic changes to our habits, routines and/or bank balances to be happy. In reality, however, that's not the case. Often, we already have everything we need to enjoy life-it's just a question of prioritizing what's really important. Here are 15 simple ways you can enjoy your life more, starting today!

1. Focus on yourself
Other people will always be on hand to offer up their opinions and advice. Ultimately, however, it's we, and we alone, that have to live with the consequences of our decisions.
2. Make time to relax
Making time to relax and reconnect with ourselves leaves us better equipped to deal with more challenging periods.
3. Avoid the news
It's all too easy to get sucked into public drama, online and offline. Trust that if something important happens, you'll know about it. Otherwise, save yourself energy and spend your time on something more worthwhile.
4. Nurture your positive relationships
Make time to nurture the positive relationships you have with friends and family. Identify the people who lift you up and focus your energy on them.
5. Meet new people
Community is one of the most important needs we have. Making a consistent effort to meet new people helps us fulfill that need and introduces us to new ideas and perspectives.
6. Explore new places
New places and cultures offer a different perspective on the world and add a healthy dose of inspiration and possibility to our lives.
7. Keep a wish list
Whenever you think of something you'd like to try, or a place you'd like to visit, write it down and keep a collection. It keeps the dream alive and stops it fizzling out as a forgotten thought.
8. Try new things
Commit to trying a certain number of items from your wish list each year to make sure they don't just stay as wishes.
9. Spend money on experiences, not possessions
It's experiences, not possessions, that create memories and meaning.
10. Cut down your junk
Physical clutter equals mental clutter; reducing the amount of stuff around us fosters a calmer mental state, too.
11. Make time for gratitude and appreciation
Creating a routine of writing down three things we feel grateful for each day helps us focus more on what we're grateful for in life.
12. Track how you're spending your time
It's easy to get to the end of a day and wonder where all the time went, so track how you spend your time in an average week. When we're conscious of how we're spending our hours, we can make the most of the time we have on this planet.
13. Be deliberate in your choices
We've never had so many opportunities to create a lifestyle that we truly love, yet many of us still live life on autopilot. Be deliberate in your life choices: remember that it's your life and no-one else's.
14. Invest in yourself
The more self-aware and self-accepting we are, the happier we are. Make time to read personal development books, journal, and focus on being compassionate towards yourself.
15. Remember that all feelings pass
A key part of enjoying life is accepting that we're not going to feel 100% happy 100% of the time. During the more challenging times, remember that life is one big cycle of ups and downs, and remember that all feelings pass.

Too Much Juice Is a Sticky Situation for Teeth

Well-meaning parents seeking to load up their kids with vitamins and nutrients by feeding them fruit juices and smoothies could be inadvertently doing some serious harm to their children's teeth. Sugar-laden drinks and especially citrus fruit-based drinks - even the all-natural, fresh kind - contain acids that can erode the enamel that protects young teeth from rot, according to dentists.

The British Dental Association found that 25 percent of toddlers regularly drink fruit juices. The Royal College of Surgeons in the U.K. estimates that 50 percent of five-year-olds are exhibiting signs of weakened teeth. The epidemic has been linked to rising over-consumption of fruit juices.
Fruit juices versus sodas
While eating whole fruits can at times benefit the teeth and gums, with vitamin C helping to build collagen from the gums and producing anti-bacterial saliva, the act of crushing those fruits releases more sugars, according to the British Dental Association. In fact, some fruit smoothies and juices can end up being even worse for your teeth than certain sodas.
Servings of juices still count as fruit servings and can be part of a good diet, so here are a few tips to help mitigate the effects of fruit juices and smoothies on teeth:
· Go with a straw: The problem is worse when toddlers drink from bottles, experts say, as the liquids are more likely to bathe the teeth when consumed that way. Drinking through a straw reduces exposure to the sugar and acids in juice.
· Water it down: Swishing some water into the juice can help dilute concentrated juices. It's also a good idea not to get youngsters too hooked on overly sugary beverages, as their palettes will become used to these flavors.
· Know the recommended limits: It's advised that children not drink more than 150 mL of 100% fruit juice a day, about 2/3 cup. That's considered an adequate volume to make up one serving of the five-a-day recommended portions of fruits and vegetables for youngsters.
· Drink with food: Save those smoothies for consumption at meal times. Taking sips between mouthfuls of food will lessen the impact of acidity on enamel.
· Get a cup of water: It's always a good idea to rinse out with water. A gulp of water between meals of drinks can help wash away residual acids and sugars that you wouldn't want to linger on your teeth.
Avoid permanent damage by brushing smartly
Correct brushing techniques and the use of a fluoridated toothpaste can also help to strengthen enamel.
However, although this may sound counter-intuitive, remember that brushing your teeth immediately after drinking fruit juices can actually damage your teeth further. This is particularly true if the juices or smoothies contained acidic fruits such as grapefruit, pineapple or oranges because the citric acid softens the enamel.
It's best to wait an hour to avoid what's known as brushing abrasion, in which the enamel is worn away due to the pH levels in your mouth. Your saliva should neutralize the acidity after an hour, making it safer to brush afterwards.

Premature Ejaculation: All You Need To Know, Causes And Remedy

Thousands of men suffer from a common male sexual disorder known as premature ejaculation but unfortunately most of them do so in total silence. This is because of the embarrassment they believe goes on with the condition and, as such, they rarely look for professional assistance. Premature ejaculation occurs when a man ejaculates too early during the sexual encounter even before they satisfy their partner. It is very important for any man in a relationship to learn how to deal with this disorder because of its potential to fall into other areas of the relationship and have a negative impact.

In most cases, this problem is normally cited as one of the leading causes of many other problems because it simply prevents the parties involved from reaching the peak pleasure of their love making sessions. It is an open secret that sex plays an important role in relationships and when it becomes the missing ingredient, it becomes a recipe for trouble. There many scientific studies that have been conducted that indicate that majority of men actually suffer from a degree of this problem at some point in their lives. However, there are many cases where this problem actually resolves itself, or when the men involved work a way of dealing with it with their partner, of course with some professional assistance.
It is estimated that the problem known as premature ejaculation has been around since time immemorial. Most men who suffer from this problem are generally know to last not longer then 2 to 4 minutes. In some of the most serious cases, such men are know to last no more than 30 seconds before they climax even without their knowledge. You don't want your relationship to hit the rock simply because you are not able to sexually satisfy your female partner. Most women who have the guts will tell you that this is among the most annoying things in any permanent sexual relationship; you can look for professional help on how to develop staying power during lovemaking.
It is important for any man who ejaculates too early during lovemaking to stop assuming this is a normal occurrence and seek some professional help. While doctors may not have been able to exactly pin point the cause of this disorder, it is probable that psychological issues play a leading role in all that takes place. Most of the time, those who suffer from this disorder will be struggling with another issue that could be related to the relationship or not. A good example is performance anxiety related to that lovemaking itself that is known to be a leading psychological issue as far as this matter is concerned.
Sometimes men are too anxious about having sex or their ability to maintain the erection and please the partner with such anxiety leading to premature ejaculation. The problem is that when this problem is not dealt with early enough, it finally develops into a habit that will eventually be quite difficult to overcome. There are also problems in relationships that will also affect a man so much that they are rendered unable to satisfy their partner, also leading to coming on too early into the sexual encounter.
There are also physiological issues that may also contribute to the problem with some illnesses taking a toll on a man's ability to perform optimally in bed. Some diseases are actually infamous for leading to sexually related problems with diabetes being the most prominent one. Diabetes is known to affect the circulatory system and therefore affects the flow of blood towards the reproductive system, often leading to sexual dysfunctions. It is also apparent that most men who ejaculate prematurely are affected by prostate inflammation and thyroid disorders.

Dos and Don'ts For Healthy Nails

Nails are the most ignored part of our body. Take a close look at your fingernails and notice... Are they strong and healthy looking? Or do they appear cracked, dented and unusual colored? Whatever be the case, you can maintain healthy nails through proper fingernail care.

Some of the Fingernail care Do's and Don'ts are mentioned below. Know more, do more:
Do:
1. Keep your fingernails dry and clean: Make it a habit to keep your fingernails dry and clean as doing so prevents bacteria and other unwanted substances from growing below the nail surface. In addition, while washing clothes, cleaning utensils or using cleansing agents like phenol, try incorporating the habit of wearing gloves to protect your nails from any harmful exposure.
2. Trim and file: It is important for you to trim and file your nails on a regular basis. Doing so will keep them in the best of their health. Also, if you're in the habit of biting your nails... quit! Make use of a nail cutter and a filer to help get your nails into shape.
3. Moisturize: Do not be surprised! Even your nails and cuticles require moisturization. As and when you moisturize your hands, make sure to massage hand lotion into your fingernails and cuticles as well.
Don't:
1. Misuse your nails: Misusing your nails in reference to poking or picking things. Understand the fact that they are your nails and not a tool. Make use of them for the purpose they serve and nothing beyond.
2. Bite your fingernails: Biting your fingernails and cuticles can damage the nail bed. Even a minor cut or opening alongside your fingernail can allow harmful bacteria to enter and cause an undesired infection.
3. Ignore nail problems: Having a nail problem for too long is something that you should avoid. If your nail problem exists for too long, make sure to visit a dermatologist to analyze the cause and treatment for the same.
Care Tips for your Nails:
1. Keep your nails short: If you are a person with weak nails, make sure to keep them short to avoid any further complications or infections. In addition, long nails are more likely to split and break.
2. Moisturizer:Use a moisturizer on your hands and apply it to your nails as well. Try practicing this routine at least 2-3 times a day. At night, wear a pair of cotton gloves to keep the moisture intact.
3. Apply enamel:Applying nail polish is beneficial to the nails as it helps keep the moisture intact.
4. Use less nail polish removers: Try using less of nail polish remover that contains acetone. The reason being, acetone is a component that dries the nails.
5. Biotin Supplements:Visit your dermatology doctor and ask him/ her for foods that you can consume to improve the health of your nails. Consuming good amounts of biotin will better the health of your nails making them smooth and well- textured.
As and when you notice discoloration, cracks or any other unusual changes in your nails, make a quick visit to your Dermatology Doctor. You could also book a dermatologist's appointment online.
