How To Copy WorkSheet From Excel Workbook File To Another

Sometimes, you might have an Excel worksheet you wish to include as a worksheet in another Excel file i.e workbook. You can get this done with ease using an Excel built-in feature instead of using "copy and paste". Using "copy and Paste" can frustrate you and might even make you lose some formatting styles.

The trick am sharing with you in this tutorial will let you insert worksheets from other workbooks quickly without losing data and formatting styles. It simply involves the use of the "Move or Copy" command in the same instance of Excel.

As an example, I'm going to show you how I copied a worksheet in Excel 2003 from a "source" workbook i.e sales.xls to a "target" workbook i.e jideexcel.xls. Just follow me through the steps:

1. Open the workbooks you want to work with (source and the target workbook)
2. In the source workbook, click on the tab of the sheet you want to copy
3. Right click the selected worksheet, and click Move or Copy

Excel_move or copy

4. In Move or Copy dialog box, click the "create a copy" option and choose the target workbook from the "To book" dropdown. Excel will display only the open workbooks in this list.

microsoft excel

excel

5. Click OK and Excel will move or copy the sheet to the target workbook.

That's all.

I hope it works for you.

Understanding the Page Elements of a Blogger Layout

When following a tutorial to add a gadget/widget or make some customizations in a Blogger blog, some new users may not know the meaning of certain terms, and sometimes, it may be harder to locate them. As for the gadgets, usually it is required to access the blog's layout in order to add or arrange any of the page elements.

For a better understanding, here are some basic explanations about the Page Elements located in the Layout section of a Blogger dashboard.

What are the Page Elements?

Page Elements is, basically, the body of our blog. To access the Page Elements, we need to click on the "Layout" option in the Blogger dashboard.

Understanding the Page Elements sections

The Blogger Layout is made of "sections and elements". The sections mark certain areas of a page. Every section is represented by the tag <b:section> and has an unique "ID" that names its element which is followed by a "class" tag. Each section has some attributes and through these, we can determine the number of elements allowed in the section and if this section gives the option to add a "page element".

Let's take a look to an example of the default code related to the header section found in the HTML of a Blogger template:
<b:section class='header' id='header' maxwidgets='1' showaddelement='no'>
<-- rest of the code -->
</b:section>
Breaking apart the code above:
  1. <b:section is the opening tag of the section.
  2. class='header' - describes the existing group inside the "header" element
  3. id='header' - identifies and specifies the header as a single element.
  4. maxwidgets='1' - determines the number of elements allowed in the "header"; here we have the number of gadgets that we can include in the header section. In this example, '1' means that this section allows us to add only a gadget.
  5. showaddelement='no' - the 'no' attribute means that the header will not show the "Add a gadget" link or we won't be able to move any Page Elements. To activate this option so that we can add new Page Elements (Add a gadget), we should change 'no' to 'yes'. By setting the "showaddelement" attribute to 'yes', we'll be able to arrange the elements as we like, just click on the element that you want to move and drag & drop it wherever you want.
The spaces reserved for adding elements in the existing sections are called Gadgets (or Widgets). You can easily add various Page Elements by clicking "Add a Gadget" link. This will open a pop-up window for you to pick and choose which elements should be added. Click on the Gadget's title or on the blue plus sign symbol to add it to your blog's layout.

After you have added a page element, gadgets can be moved up, down or sideways. You can put them wherever you want. Of all the existing gadgets, the most used is the "HTML/JavaScript". Inside this gadget (widget) you can insert any code, as long as it is in the HTML or JavaScript language.

Each time you decide to add a new gadget, click on the "Add a gadget" link in the area where you want to add it. For example, if you want to add a JavaScript code and want it to appear in the sidebar, you should click on the "Add a gadget" in the "sidebar" section, choose the "HTML/JavaScript" option and paste the code in there.

Once you have added new gadgets (widgets), it is recommended to check the changes by clicking on the Preview button before saving anything. So, if something went wrong, you simply click on "Clear" so that everything that was not saved to return to its previous state. If the position of any Page Elements (Gadgets) has been rearranged, you will need to click on the Save arrangement button in order to see the changes.

Google Scrapper Report Form For Reporting Copycats

If you see a scrapper URL outranking the original source of content in Google search, you can now report such URL to Google using the new Scrapper report form. This is Google's latest effort in reducing the activities of Internet copycats known as "scrapers".

According to Google, the form does not perform a spam report or notice of copyright infringement. For now, Google just want to use the data you submit to test and improve algorithms as Google is currently testing algorithmic changes for scraper sites (especially blog scrapers).

The link to the Google scrapper form was posted on Twitter by Matt Cuts; head of the webspam team at Google.

The form asks you the source URL, i.e. the original source of the content, the URL of the page stealing the content, the search results page where it is being outranked, and just a confirmation.

You can fill the Google Scrapper form here.

Such scrapper sites sometimes score higher than the original content in Google search results, thereby frustrating thousands of bloggers. So, if Google can do something about this, don't you think it will be cool??

NOTE: Use https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/spamreport?hl=en&pli=1 to report spam or http://www.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=ts.cs&ts=1114905 to report copyright complaints.

How To Show Any Gadget on Blogger Mobile Template

If you configure your Blogger blog to show mobile template on mobile devices, the widgets listed below are the ones that are displayed by default:

  • Header

  • Blog

  • Profile

  • PageList

  • AdSense

  • Attribution

If you want any other Blogger widget to display on the mobile view of your Blogger blog, you will have to activate a "custom" mobile template instead of using one of the default Blogger mobile templates.

In addition to that, you will have to add mobile=’yes’ attribute to the <b:widget> tag of the widget, right inside your blog's html.

The "mobile" attribute lets you control which of the widgets on your Blogger blog will be available in mobile view. It can be 'default', 'yes', 'no', or 'only'.

Now, let's assume you have used the HTML/Javascript gadget to add an advert to your Blogger blog and you want it to display on the mobile view of your blog. Just follow me through the steps below:

IMPORTANT: First ensure you have enabled Blogger mobile template and have switched to "Custom" as explained here

==> Now, you need to get the id of the widget as highlighted below:

As seen above, the id of the widget is HTML31.

You can read: how to get id of any Blogger widget if you don't know how to go about it.

==> Next, is to go to "Template" > "Edit HTML"

==> Click on "Jump To Widget" and click on the id of the widget you want to show on the mobile view of your blog. This will take you directly to the <b:widget> tag of the widget.

eg

<b:widget id='HTML31' locked='false' title='' type='HTML'>....</b:widget>

==> Click inside the tag and type mobile='yes'

Your new code should now like like this:

<b:widget id='HTML31' locked='false'  mobile='yes'  title='' type='HTML'>....</b:widget>

==> Click "Save Template"

That's all.

You can now view the mobile view of your blog by adding ?m=1 to your blog's URL eg www.ogbongeblog.com?m=1 and you should see the widget been displayed.

Let me know if this works for you.

How To Stop Any Gadget From Showing on Blogger Mobile View

Earlier, I shared with you, how to show gadgets on Blogger mobile template. In the tutorial, I listed the widgets that appear by default once you configure your Blogger blog to show mobile template on mobile devices. If you don't want some of the widgets (eg Attribution) to display on the mobile view of your blog, you can easily remove them using the "mobile" attribute.

Remember, the "mobile" attribute lets you control which of the widgets on your Blogger blog will be available in mobile view and it can be 'default', 'yes', 'no', or 'only'. Hence, by adding mobile=’no’ attribute to the <b:widget> tag of the widget, right inside your blog's html, you can easily stop such widget from displaying on the mobile view of your blog

.....but

this will NOT work unless you have switched from default Blogger mobile template to "custom" Blogger mobile template.

As an example, let me assume you want to stop the "Powered by Blogger" (Attribution) from showing in the footer of the mobile view of your blog. Just follow me through the steps below:

IMPORTANT: First ensure you have enabled Blogger mobile template and have switched to "Custom" as explained here.

Now, you need to get the id of the widget. You can read: how to get id of any Blogger widget if you don't know how to go about it.

==> Next, is to go to "Template" > "Edit HTML"

==> Click on "Jump To Widget" and click on the id of the widget you want to stop from showing on the mobile view of your blog. This will take you directly to the <b:widget> tag of the widget.

In this example, "Attribution1" is the id of the Attribution widget on my blog. Hence, it's code will look like this:

 <b:widget id='Attribution1' locked='false' title='' type='Attribution'>...</b:widget>

==> Click inside the tag and type mobile='no'

The new code should now like like this:

<b:widget id='Attribution1' locked='false' mobile="no" title='' type='Attribution'>...</b:widget>

==> Click "Save Template"

That's all.

You can now view the mobile view of your blog by adding ?m=1 to your blog's URL eg www.ogbongeblog.com?m=1 and you should no longer see the widget been displayed.

Let me know if this works for you.
