Hajj Stampede: We Used White Cloth Of Corpses To Cover Ourselves - Nigerian Survivor shares Real experience «

A survivor of the stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia, has
narrated how he survived the incident.
Dahiru Shittu, one of the over 60,000 Nigerians attending
this year’s pilgrimage, was among the thousands of people
gathered in Mina for the devil stoning rite, part of the hajj
activities, when the stampede occurred.

‘”We were trapped in between narrow lane with iron wall
of tents on both sides of the road,” he told PREMIUM
TIMES in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. “There was no way
out, so people started scaling fences into tents of Algeria
and other Arab countries.”

Mr. Shittu, from Igabi Local Government Area of
Kaduna State, added that “My friend and I, who were
completely exhausted from the previous long distance
trekking from Arafat to Muztalifa where we spent the night
and set out that morning to Jamra, had no option than to
step on other weaker pilgrims to survive.
“You will see mother and parents leaving their children and
aged to survive. I was however, helped by an Arab man
to scale the fence into a tent.

“Many male and female pilgrims dead or alive were seen
Unclad. We that survived, had to scavenge for Ihram
(white cloth) of corpses to cover our unclothedness. Those of
us who were alive were gasping for survival in an
exhausted struggle, some of whom were later offered ice
block by some volunteers.”

“An Ethiopian pilgrim abandoned his mother who became a
‘ladder’ for those who scaled through fences to survive.
Many others too, were crushed to death in such a manner.”
The pilgrim lamented the security situation during the rite
saying there was not enough “security around or any rescue
team.”

There have been reports that the closure of two essential
gate, reportedly at the instance of the Saudi Royal family
who were receiving some visitors, was a major cause of
the stampede, a fact Mr. Shittu elaborates.
“If the gates of those tents from both sides of the road had
opened, the death toll would have been very minimal,” he
said. “But the Arabs closed the gates and continued to hit
the hands of any pilgrim with a metal as they attempted to
scale their fences to get free air.”

The survivor, who suffered an injury on his leg, lamented
the inadequate medical attention received by some survivors
saying, “I did not receive any medical attention from either
the Saudi, NAHCON (Nigerian officials) or Kaduna
authority despite my complaints to them.”
He said he saw corpses of many Nigerians from Lagos and
Sokoto whom he identified from their uniform.

“There was a woman who was carrying a baby and I am
not sure if she will survive because there were so many
bodies piled on top of her and the baby.”
No official figure has been announced by Nigerian
authorities of the number of casualties from the country.

However, Sokoto State has confirmed that at least nine of
its pilgrims were killed in the stampede while Taraba has
confirmed three. Saudi officials said at least 769 people
were killed in the stampede while over 900 people were
injured.

Lamenting his present state, Mr. Shittu said he “was
completely traumatized; in fact if there is anything beyond
being traumatized, that was how I felt because I thought it
was the end of the world.

“But that did not discourage me from wanting to come back
for Hajj again because this is part of the test of faith.”

Saraki Is Our Man, We Will Not Abandon Him – PDP Opens Up

If a man dumped your party, joined
another to defeat you in the general
election and you now turn around to
be fighting for the same man, there is
an agenda you are working to
achieve. That’s politics for you.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
has insisted that Senate President
Bukola Saraki is their man and is fit
for the office he is occupying; hence
they are not considering any
candidate to replace him.

PDP spokesman Olisa Metuh gave
their position: “Does the trial have
merit? When we see the merit of the
case, we will take position. But for
now, there is nothing like that.”

The PDP denied reports that it was
already looking for a senator from the
opposition party to replace Saraki,
who is currently under pressure to
resign from office following his trial
for false asset declaration by the Code
of Conduct Tribunal.
Speaking with Punch, Metuh said the
party still believed that the trial of
Saraki was political and that the PDP
would not think of abandoning the
Senate president until it sees the
merit of the case.

He added, “We have no candidate for
the office of the Senate President,
because we have a fit person
occupying the position for now.
“We are behind him and we can’t
abandon him just because he is
undergoing trial. Anybody can be put
on trial, but the question we should
ask is whether the trial is political or
not.”

Saraki, a former governor of Kwara
State, is currently facing a 13-count
charge of making false declaration as
a governor between 20013 and 2011.
Since his arraignment before the
tribunal, there had been speculations
that the PDP, which produced Saraki’s
deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, had been
scheming to replace him with one of
its senators.

Among those being touted as possible
replacements for Saraki are
Ekweremadu; a former Senate
President, David Mark; and a former
Governor of Akwa Ibom State,
Godswill Akpabio.

Nigeria’s two main labour unions –
Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade
Union Congress – on Saturday
demanded Saraki’s resignation on
moral grounds consequent upon his
trial at the CCT.

10 Nigerian Footballers Who Will Never Play For Super Eagles

image

Nigeria is blessed with lots of
talented football players and some
of them play for the best leagues
and teams in the world.

While many have gotten to feature for
the Super Eagles during the course of
their careers, some others will never
get to play for their fatherland.

We tale a look at some of these
players, who may possibly never play
for the Nigerian national team, due to
their mixed roots and preference of
their home countries.

1. Chuba Akpom

He is currently on loan at Hull City
from Arsenal FC. The young striker,
who was born to a Nigerian father
and an English mother has
represented England at various youth
levels and has even hinted that he
may never play for Nigeria.
When asked where he sees himself 5
years from now during a Q and A
session on Twitter, he said: “Hopefully
still playing for Arsenal and the
England senior team too. I want to
emulate the Arsenal legends.”

2. Jordan Ibe

The Liverpool FC winger is another
footballer of Nigerian descent lost to
England. Born Jordan Ashley Femi
Ibe, he is a winger c*m striker and
has played his entire career at
Anfield.
Ibe has represented England at
various youth teams. Sunday Oliseh
tried persuading him to play for the
Super Eagles, however on 13
September, it was confirmed that Ibe
had committed his international
future to England.

3. David Alaba

David Olatokunbo Alaba was born in
Vienna to a Filipino mother (a nurse)
and a Nigerian father (a DJ and former
rapper). He currently plays for Bayern
Munich and the Austrian national

Alaba was instrumental in Bayern’s
treble winning team last season. He
has played a multitude of roles,
including central midfield, right and
left wing. In October 2009, he was
called up to the senior Austria
national team for a match against
France. He has since been capped 26
times by Austria.
He is now arguably one of the best
left backs in the world.

4. Ross Barkley

With a Nigerian paternal grandfather,
he was eligible to represent Nigeria
earlier in his career, but opted to
represent his country of birth. He has
represented England at under-16,
under-17, under-19, under-20,
under-21 and senior level.
He scored his first goal for England
under-21’s on 13 August 2013, in a 6–0
win against Scotland.
Barkley was called up to the senior
England squad in August 2013, and
earned his first senior cap the
following month, coming on as a
substitute for Jack Wilshere in a 4–0
win in a World Cup qualifier against
Moldova at Wembley.

5. Sidney Sam

Born to a German mother and
Nigerian father, Sam decided early on
to represent his country of birth.
After starring in Germany’s under-19
and under-20 teams, Sam made his
senior international debut for
Germany in a friendly game against
Ecuador in Boca Raton, Florida. Sam
was named to the 30-man provisional
squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup by
German national team manager,
Joachim Löw.

6. Gabriel Agbonlahor

Gabriel Imuetinyan “Gabby”
Agbonlahor (born 13 October 1986).
Agbonlahor was born to a Nigerian
father and a Scottish mother in
Birmingham. His ancestry qualifies
him to play for Scotland or Nigeria at
international level, but he chose to
play for his homeland of England.
Agbonlahor is a product of Aston
Villa’s Academy and still plays for the
club. He is also Aston Villa’s all-time
leading Premier League goalscorer.
On 19 November, he made his
international debut against Germany.
He played for 76 minutes. Since then
he has earned only three caps for the
English national team.

7. Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor

Adebayor was born in Togo to
Nigerian parents and plays for
Tottenham Hotspurs in England and
the Togolese National Team.
He’s previously played for AS
Monaco, Arsenal, Real Madrid and
Manchester City.
Adebayor was voted African Player of
the Year in 2008. He has played for
Togo 57 times.

8. Nedum Onuoha

Chinedum “Nedum” Onuoha (born 12
November 1986) plays for Queens
Park Rangers. He is a defender,
usually used as a centre back, but he
can also play at right back or left
back. Born in Warri, Nigeria, Onuoha
was brought up in Manchester,
England.
In March 2007, Onuoha received an
international call up from Nigeria, but
announced he would like to represent
England at full international level.
However, he has since admitted that
he would play at the FIFA World Cup
for Nigeria if he were to be called up.
Onuoha has never been capped by
England at international level.

9. Oguchi Onyewu

Oguchialu Chijioke “Oguchi” Onyewu
is an American central defender who
is currently a free agent. Onyewu’s
parents moved to the United States
from Nigeria to study in Washington,
D.C. They are from the Igbo ethnic
people of Nigeria. He made his first
appearance for the senior national
team on October 13, 2004, against
Panama. Onyewu has been capped by
USA 64 times. Oguchi still remains a
free agent after Sporting announced
the termination of his contract by
mutual consent.

10. Dennis Aogo

Born to a Nigerian father and a
German mother, Aogo grew up in
Oberreut, a suburb in the south-west
of Karlsruhe in Germany. Aogo is
capable of playing either as a left
back or as a defensive midfielder. He
currently plays for FC Schalke 04 (on
loan from Hamburger SV). Nigeria
gave him the chance to play at the
2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa
but Aogo announced that he would
only play for Germany.
He made his national team debut for
Germany in a friendly match against
Malta in a 3–0 victory on 13 May 2010,
playing 79 minutes, before being
replaced by Jérôme Boateng. He has
been capped 12 times sand not much
has been heard about him since then.

Emir Sanusi Marries 18-Year-Old Princess Secretly

image

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu
Sanusi II, has finally tied the knot
with his rumoured heartthrob,
Sa’adatu Barkindo-Musdafa, the
daughter of the Lamido of Adamawa,
Muhammadu Barkindo-Musdafa.
The 18-year old becomes the Emir’s
fourth wife. She only recently
completed secondary school.
In addition to his first wife, Sadiya,
who is the daughter of the late emir
of Kano, Ado Bayero, Mr. Sanusi has
two other wives — Maryam and
Rakiya.

The secret wedding was contracted in
a low-keyed ceremony in the town of
Yola on Friday.
Palace sources in Yola told PT that the
Wedding Fatiha held inside the palace
of the Lamido minutes after the
Jumma’at prayer.

Insiders say that the influential Emir
only sent out invitation to some
dignitaries across the country, as
Kano government officials sneaked
into Yola for the wedding fatiha to
avoid journalists.

The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi
Ganduje, was said to have acted as
the guardian for the groom, while his
Adamawa counterpart, Jibrilla
Bindow, played the role of the bride’s
guardian, who gave her hands out in
marriage to the monarch.

“His decision to take a new wife is in
line with Islamic injunction. Islam
allows having a maximum of four
wives for those who can treat all of
them equally and provide for a large
family,” said a top Kano state
government official who travelled to
Yola for the wedding.

A social commentator, Dan’Almajiri
Ibrahim, argued that in ancient times,
links between empires were tightened
by marriages among royals and nobles
across boundaries.
“So, the engagement of the Adamawa
princess to Emir Sanusi II may also be
a move to deepen royal bond between
Adamawa and Kano.

“You see, historically, both emirates
have similar origins in the 19th
Century Uthman Dan Fodio’s jihad.”
A reliable source say the young wife
will not move in with the Emir
immediately but after some time.

Newcastle United 2 – 2 Chelsea [Premier
League] Highlights 2015/16
Chelsea had to battle back from two goals down in order
to salvage a point as they drew 2-2 with Newcastlein the
Premier League on Saturday.

The Magpies have often been a bogey team for Jose
Mourinho’s men and they went against their own dreadful
recent form to open the scoring through Ayoze Perez
shortly before half-time.

Georginio Wijnaldum extended their lead on the hour,
leaving the Blues in considerable trouble, but a late
revival saw Willian and Ramires score two goals in
seven minutes to spare last year’s champions a fourth
defeat of the league season.

The England international scored his first

James Milner’s early strike, with Rudy

visitors
Daniel Sturridge scored twice as Liverpool eased the
pressure on manager Brendan Rodgers with victory over
Aston Villa.

James Milner gave the hosts the lead inside two minutes
before combining with Sturridge after the break as the
England striker volleyed past Brad Guzan.
Rudy Gestede pulled one back for Tim Sherwood’s side
from close-range, but Sturridge looked to have sealed the
three points for the Reds as he finished with aplomb from
Philippe Coutinho’s backheel pass.

Gestede had other ideas, however, as he netted his second
of the match with a powerful header, but Rodgers’s side
hung on to register a first league win in five matches.

Having not previously scored this season,
the Chile international excelled with three
goals at the King Power Stadium, with Theo
Walcott and Olivier Giroud also finding the
net

The last unbeaten record of the Premier League season
fell on Saturday as Arsenal came away from the King
Power Stadium with a 4-1 victory over Leicester City,
Alexis Sanchez roaring back into form with a hat-trick.

Claudio Ranieri’s side took the lead early in the game
when Jamie Vardy was released down the left and fired
home from a narrow angle but Theo Walcott exploited
his pace to equalise just five minutes later.

Alexis finally scored his first goal of the season to see the
Gunners through to half-time with an advantage and the
Chilean followed up just short of the hour when he headed
in from Mesut Ozil’s cross.

The Arsenal forward then sealed his hat-trick in the 81st
minute, skipping inside a defender to shoot long and low
into the bottom corner from 25 yards.
There was a consolation for Leicester late in the day
when Vardy scored his second of the match, a curling
finish after Arsenal failed to properly clear the ball, but
there was no question that the Alexis-inspired visitors
were going to lose control of the result. That much was
confirmed when Olivier Giroud swept in a fifth for
Arsene Wenger’s men at the death.

Manchester United moved to the top of the
Premier League table thanks to goals from
Memphis Depay, Wayne Rooney and Juan
Mata as they beat Sunderland 3-0 at Old
Trafford.

Louis van Gaal’s side capitalised on Manchester City’s
defeat at Tottenham earlier in the day to move a point
about their city rivals.
Memphis opened the scoring deep into first-half stoppage
time, tapping home Juan Mata’s pass after a superb
cross-field pass by Daley Blind.

Rooney then added a second shortly after the break, the
ball hitting his knee and flying past Costel Pantilimon after
some good work from Anthony Martial before Mata
grabbed a third in the 90th minute.

Woman hacks mother-in-law to death with an ax, says Satan asked her to also kill her mother and sister

Caroline Wanjiku has confessed to hacking her mother-in-
law Ann Nyambura to death in Kiambu county. She said
that Satan had asked her to also kill her mother and sister
but she didn't find them at home. The 29-year-old
reported to Thigio chief’s post on Monday, September 21,
saying visions of snakes coiling around her waist kept her up
at night.

"On Sunday night when I went to sleep, the snakes
visited me. They asked me to kill the three people
they kept asking for, but I prayed to God and slept
after they left. The following morning, they came
again and asked me to kill them. I do not know
what happened but I proceeded to the kitchen where
my mother-in-law was and killed her with an ax."

She said
She told the press, administration police and residents she
also intended to kill her mother and sister but did not find
them at her matrimonial home. "It is Satan who disturbs
my mind," said the woman whose husband, David Njenga,
works in Qatar.

She said she committed the crime while her father-in-law,
Ben Maara, was at a garage washing his car, and then
took a boda boda to her home.
Assistant chief James Mwaura said Wanjiku told her
father-in-law that she had killed his wife, and asked for
her mother and sister. "She went to the AP post to report
what she had done when she could not find her mother and
her sister," Mwaura said. "She has been taking tablets
which control her mental problem but no one knows what
happened. We are leaving everything to investigators."

Officers from Tigoni police station and crime scene
detectives from Nairobi county reported to the scene and
began a probe. They collected blood samples and the ax and
took statements from family members, but declined to
comment saying they were not authorised to address the
press.

Wanjiku was later transferred from the chief’s post to the
police station. Officers said she will undergo a mental check
at Mathari hospital. The body was taken to City mortuary

I have also been charged before the Code of Conduct tribunal - Tinubu

National leader of APC, Bola Tinubu says the current
trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code
of Conduct is nothing new to him as he was tried at the
same tribunal two weeks after leaving office as governor of
Lagos state. Speaking to newsmen after his Eid prayers at
the Dodan Barracks praying ground yesterday September
24th, Tinubu said

“After they discovered that my asset declaration had
some questions, they charged me to the tribunal. I
went and challenged them to show proofs. I was
later discharged and acquitted because there was no
evidence to prove their claim. It is only then I
accused the government of being selective. We have
to live by example and by our words.
We can’t be talking about it alone. We have to
work it without any iota of blackmail. I have been
through it. The second week I left office, I was
invited by the EFCC. I went there and answer
their questions. Later, I took them to court and I
won. The government officials are almost no longer
believable in this country. When one has a public
responsibility, they look at it as if the source of
wealth to steal and mismanage public funds and do
things that are not included in the democratic norms
and values. We cannot overlook a lot of things. We
cannot personalise a lot of things as if it is vendetta.
We have to endure, be patient, look for justice,
equity and balance society.” he said

Saudi prince arrested at L.A. compound for alleged sex crime

A Saudi prince was arrested at a hillside compound near
Beverly Hills on Wednesday Sept. 23 after being accused
of trying to force a worker to perform a sex act on him,
Los Angeles police said.
Police were called to the gated property in the Beverly
Glen area, within a gated community on Wallingford
Drive, after a caretaker at the home reported a
disturbance, officials said.

After officers interviewed people inside, a 28-year-old
man identified as Saudi prince Majed Abdulaziz Al-Saud
was arrested on suspicion of forced oral copulation of an
adult.

He was booked and freed on $300,000 bail Thursday
afternoon, jail records show. He could not immediately be
reached for comment.
LAPD Officer Drake Madison said Al-Saud was
booked after 4 p.m.

The LAPD has a consul liaison division that checks with
foreign nations' consulates regarding diplomatic immunity,
said Capt. Tina Nieto.
Police determined Al-Saud does not have immunity in this
case, she said.

Some foreign royalty do have diplomatic immunity, but it
depends on the dignitary's status in his home country’s
government and the level of the offense he commits in the
U.S., she said.

Jail records show Al-Saud is scheduled to appear in court
Oct. 19.
Neighbor Tennyson Collins said a resident reported seeing
a bleeding woman scream for help as she tried to scale the
property’s 8-foot-high wall Wednesday afternoon.

When Collins drove home from work after 1:30 p.m.,
police followed his car through the gates and onto the
property, which he described as a compound. The website
Zillow valued the 22,000-square-foot property at $37
million.
Officers escorted some 20 people out of the house, many of
them staff, Collins said.

Police said Al-Saud was renting the home. Collins said
various foreign nationals have been renting out the property
for weeks at a time over the last year but that the biggest
incident up to Wednesday had just been a raucous party or
two. One person who rented out the home stationed armed
guards at the gates, he said.

“Obviously neighbors aren’t happy about it, but it is
what it is,” Collins said of the international visitors.

I made N6m as a fake lawyer – Suspect

A fake lawyer, Olawale Falola, who claimed to be a
dropout of a university in Osun State was arrested by the
Oyo State Police Command during a stop-and-search in
Ibadan recently.

It was gathered that after seeing a sticker belonging to the
Nigeria Bar Association on his windscreen, the police
asked him about his identity, but he couldnt defend his
'Lawyer' status.
He said he made N6m from victims whom he promised to
help secure jobs at the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation, NNPC.
According to him:

“I paraded myself as a lawyer and I have taken
money from more than 100 people. I promised to
get jobs for them at NNPC and security
organisations. I have made up to N4m from the
practice out of which I bought a Toyota Corolla
car. I lived in Osogbo. I came to Ibadan to visit
my family when I was arrested by the police.”

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Leye Oyebade,
said Falola’s car valued at N2m had been impounded and
that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as
investigations into his activities were concluded.

He said:

“Falola was arrested for parading himself as a
lawyer when he was not.
“The car was bought from the proceeds of his illegal
activity and he had confessed to the crime. There is
no place for such people in our society. In our
renewed effort to completely rid the state of
criminals, the state police command will not give
room for criminals to thrive.”

Heroic Nigerian Troops Arrest Another Boko haram Kingpin (Photo)

Heroic Nigerian troops have today
captured the economic important and
strategic town of Banki town in Borno
State which is equally noted for
fishing.

It is important to note that major
economic and trading activities
between Nigeria, Cameroon and
Central African countries takes place
in the town.

The gallant troops have completed
exploiting through the town and
terrorists’ famous Boko Haram
Islamiyah (An Islamic School)
building. In addition, the soldiers
have destroyed 7 Boko Haram camps
and successfully detonated 7
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The troops have succeeded in
discovering and detonating 13 IEDs
between Darel Jamal and Banki.

During the encounter to recapture the
town, several Boko Haram terrorists
were killed and several others were
captured alive between Banki junction

Saudi Prince Blames African Pilgrims For The Stampede In Mecca That Killed 700

Saudi Arabia’s head of the central
Hajj commitee, Prince Khaled al-
Faisal, has blamed the crush outside
the holy city of Mecca that killed at
least 717 people and injured 850 more
on “some pilgrims with African
nationalities”.

People from several different
countries are reported to have died in
the stampede, which took place when
two groups of pilgrims arrived at a
crossroads on Street 204 at the tent
city of Mina for a traditional stone-
throwing ritual.

Prince Khaled’s controversial remarks
on undisciplined pilgrims were
echoed by Saudi health minister
Khaled al-Falih, who was quoted by
El-Ekhbariya television as saying that
“many pilgrims move without
respecting the timetables [set by
authorities, which was the] principal
reason for this type of accident. If the
pilgrims had followed instructions,
this type of accident could have been
avoided.”

Among the casualties of the incident,
which happened on first day of the
Eid al-Adha festival (24 September),
are at least 43 Iranian nationals.
Iranian officials accused Saudi Arabia
of mismanagement and lack of safety
in the aftermath of the tragedy.

The head of Iran’s Hajj organisation,
Said Ohadi, said the incident was
caused by the authorities’ decision to
close two paths near the scene of the
symbolic ‘stoning of the devil’ ritual.
“Today’s incident shows
mismanagement and lack of serious
attention to the safety of pilgrims.
There is no other explanation. The
Saudi officials should be held
accountable,” he said on Iranian state
television according to AFP.

Iran’s deputy foreign minister Hossein
Amir Abdollahian said a Saudi
diplomatic envoy would be
summoned over the incident. “We
can in no way be indifferent to this
irresponsible behaviour of Saudi
Arabia. This will be dealt with
through diplomatic channels. Saudi
Arabian officials are responsible for
this incident and they should
immediately endeavour to take
effective measures for managing the
existing crisis and providing full
security for pilgrims.”

The stone-throwing ritual emulates
the actions of Prophet Abraham, who
is believed to have stoned the devil at
three locations when he attempted to
discourage Abraham from God’s order
to sacrifice his son Ishmael. God
eventually spares the boy and sends a
sheep to be sacrificed in his place.

Muslims gathered until dawn at the
Muzdalifah where they picked their
pebbles and put them in empty water
bottles. They had spent a day of
prayer on a vast Saudi plain and
Mount Arafat, which sits 10km from
Mina. The ritual itself takes place at a
five-storey, 1km-long structure known
as the Jamarat Bridge, near the scene
of the crush.

The structure, which cost more than
$1bn (£660m), has a capacity of
300,000 pilgrims an hour. The area
and number of entry and exit points
have been increased over the years in
an effort to improve safety. Reuters
said that an officer kept repeating
through a loudspeaker at Jamarat:
“Please pilgrims do not push one
another. Please leave from the exit
and don’t come back by the same
route”.

I Wasn’t Attacked – Saraki Explains What Happened

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has
debunked widespread reports that he
was attacked on Thursday at the eid
kabir prayer ground in Ilorin, Kwara
state.

Saraki disclosed this in a statement
from his media office on Thursday.
It was earlier reported today that
Saraki was attacked by disgruntled
protesters and was pelted with stones
by those lamenting of not being paid
their salaries arrears.

“The attention of the Media Office of
the Senate President has been drawn
to media reports that the Senate
President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola
Saraki, was allegedly attacked at the
Eid Prayer Ground during the
prayers to mark the Eid-el-Kabir in
Ilorin.

“The Senate President arrived at the
venue this morning without any
incident, prayed with other Muslim
faithful, including the Emir of Ilorin,
His Royal Highness (HRH), Alhaji
Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, Speaker of
the Kwara State House of Assembly,
Rt. Hon Ali Ahmad and a former
Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice
Alfa Belgore, among others.

“Before the Senate President left the
prayer ground, he spoke to reporters
who had asked him about his
message for Nigerians to mark the
Eid-el-Kabir.

“We want to say that nothing can be
further from the truth as the Senate
President was never attacked nor
was there any attempt made on his
life to warrant him being ‘whisked
away’ as reported by a section of the
media.

“We however observe that there was
a protest allegedly staged by local
government employees over
purported non-payment of salaries
which hoodlums attempted to
hijacked but this development was
immediately curtailed by security
agents.

“Therefore, to say that the Senate
President was attacked at the venue
of the prayers is totally false and a
figment of the imagination of those
behind the story because the protest
was never targeted at him, neither
was any missile hurled at him.

“The Kwara State Government has
since issued a statement in which it
stated that majority of the workers
in the state have received their
salaries and that those yet to receive
theirs will do so on Monday as
Thursday and Friday of this week are
public holidays.”

Fayose Shades Buhari, APC And Oshiomhole, Compares GEJ To Jesus

Ayo Fayose, governor of Ekiti state,
delivered a trifecta of criticism on
Thursday, while overseeing the
Bayelsa primary election of the
Peoples Democratic Party.
Fayose took a swipe at President
Muhammadu Buhari, Adams
Oshiomhole and the All Progressives
Congress.

Speaking on Thursday in Yenagoa,
Fayse yet again criticised Buhari for
his appointment of Amina Zakari, as
chairman of the Independent National
Electoral Commission.

He said: “ I have complained very
clearly about the choice of the INEC
chairperson. Nobody can give us an
INEC chairman that is his daughter
or in-law. This is our Country and
nobody can run out of Nigeria.
“Therefore, we are watching the
INEC and its activities. We will not
allow you to play pranks. This is an
Ijaw state and so they are going
nowhere. This is a PDP controlled
state. No hidden agenda will work in
Bayelsa.”

“In our place, it is one stone that
scatters so many birds. Your
(Dickson) stone will scatter their
birds. I’ve worked with them before. I
know their style and antics. So fear
not.

“I am conducting this PDP primary
in Bayelsa transparently in line with
the PDP guidelines. I am not ready to
dodge out of this stadium to run
away. The truth will stand the test of
time and speak for itself.

“You have won the battle already.
This is not a party where they will do
one primary today and cancel it
tomorrow. In this our own, there will
be no cancellation. This is an
authority in Bayelsa.
“Nigeria respects my voice because I
am not given to frivolities and
propaganda. I am here to conduct an
election that will stand the test of
time.

Speaking of Goodluck Jonathan, he
said: “You gave us the relative peace
we are enjoying. You remain a man
after my heart. I am a governor that
has no apology for supporting you.
Everybody must remember that it is
a virtue to be courageous to defend
the truth.

“Jonathan is a man to be recognised
in the whole world. He conducted an
election that worked against his
interest but he gave it up. Jesus Christ
did exactly the same.”

Doctor And Two Others Arrested For Selling Baby In Lagos (Photo)

THE Lagos State Police Command,
yesterday arrested three persons,
among them, a trado-medical doctor,
over alleged theft and sale of a two-
week old baby.

The state Commissioner of Police (CP),
Mr. Fatai Owoseni, who paraded the
suspects yesterday at the command
headquarters, Ikeja, identified the
trado-medical doctor as Onolaja
Olawale and the two suspects as Mr
and Mrs Ayogbinle.

He said that the traditional doctor
was instrumental to the sale of the
baby, while the couple, were the
buyers.
According to him, Dr. Olawole
allegedly sold the baby to the couple
for N136,000.
Mr. Owoseni who identified the
child’s parents as Idiatu Babatunde
and Akinola Babatunde said the
trado-medical healer was
instrumental to the sale of the baby.
The couple, after paying N136,000 to
him, took possession of the baby.
The couple and the doctor have been
arrested and the baby reunited with
her mother.”

In his confessional statement, the
traditional medicine practitioner
admitted collecting N136,000 from Mr.
And Mrs Ayogbinle, but said that the
money was meant to facilitate the
procurement of papers to adoption
the baby from the Lagos State
government.

He said: “The mother of the baby
came to me to say that she would be
going back to Ofa Polytechnic where
she is schooling, to process her
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
documents and that she would be
away for two weeks. She appealed to
me to assist in taking care of the child
while she was away.

“We are family friends. Since my wife
was also breast-feeding, I decided
that we should take custody of the
baby pending when she would return
from school.

However, I have known Mr. And Mrs
Ayogbinle for some years and I know
that they are in dire need of a child.
The woman has been suffering from
miscarriages for several years. I sold
the idea of adopting the baby to
them. They gave me N130,000 to
procure all relevant documents
before I was arrested,” he said.
On her part, Oluwakemi Ayogbinle
who also mitted buying the baby,
blamed her landlord for reporting the
matter to the police.

She said the bubble burst when her
landlord who knew that she was not
pregnant was shocked to discover the
two-week old baby in her custody.
“My landlord who knows that I was
never pregnant, not to talk of giving
birth to a two-week old baby,
reported the matter to the police.” If I
had been able to procure the
documents, I would have taken good
care of the baby. I need a baby.
The CP said the suspect would soon
be charged to the court soon.
