MTN App Developer Competition: How To Apply

MTN Nigeria has kicked off a competition for mobile applications (apps) developers to encourage the development of mobile applications relevant to the Nigerian market .





MTN's aim is to use the MTN App Developer Challenge as a credible platform to make the brand's promise a reality as well as promote the growth and use of locally relevant content which would help develop the Nigerian ecosystem via partnerships.



Developers will be expected to submit applications into any of the following categories:

• Entertainment and Lifestyle


• Productivity


• Games


• Education


• Health and Wellness


• Special category  for students submissions (undergraduates)

Top 4 Apps will be shortlisted from each category based on number of customer's downloads and will be judged based on the criteria listed below.  One ‘wild card’ app will also be selected from each category by the judges (Judges’ wild card).

How I Manage Banking Profession With Blogging

Below are the key points that help me through my career as a banker and a blogger:



Set Your Priority



Of course I know where I pay my bills from. I am not a three digits earner in blogging yet but I know how much my bank is paying me so my priority should be my bank job. Any decline in it may be disastrous and we all know how banking job is delicate, it needs utmost care, concentration, efficiency and 100% thoroughness.



Choosing my Job over blogging automatically make me a ‘part-time blogger’. Setting your priority will also enable you to choose if you are a full time blogger or a part time



Time Management



The most important aspect of it all is time management. After prioritizing my job functions, I really need to manage my time effectively and efficiently. In Banking, we only know when we leave and we don’t know when we return. So to return on time, I have to be on top my game operationally. I have to concentrate wholly and basically on the job at hand so that I will come home on time for blogging.



I blog from 7pm to 9pm after returning from work. This duration of time is very important because I use it to make my research, type my blog post, and publish it on my Naija Tips blog. I also use it to read other blogs, comment on blogs.





Choose Appropriate Niche



For you to really succeed as a blogger and a banker, I really need to choose the niche that you have passion for and not an expiry niche like entertainment and news. That is why I choose technology, blogging tips and career.



Advantages of blogging on this niche are;

• A post on tips and tutorial can be use overtime and it won’t expire and thus, you can re-share it for your audience when you don’t have the time to post.


• After developing your blog to a certain standard, i.e. having a high Page Rank (Pr), high traffic and exposure, you will surely have a Guest Post. All you have to do is to edit the post and publish it thus giving you more time to relax after a hectic bank job

I want to conclude that you should take blogging as a passion but not an avenue to make money. See blogging as an avenue to add value depending on what you share. The moment you take blogging as a means of making money, and if the money is not coming, you will surely get frustrated and your blogging desire will die.



Being a blogger and a banker is not easy, the only thing that kept me going is the passion and I can also state that being a Banker really helps my blogging desire because I have access to Naira and dollar cards to pay for my WebHosting, Domain Name etc.

The Z10's 4.2-inch LCD display has a 1,280x768-pixel WXGA HD resolution giving it fine lettering, crisp edges, and deep colors. It comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus 1.5 GHz dual-core (STL100-1 & STL100-2 & STL100-3 & STL100-4) processor.



Memory and Camera Features:



The Z10 is the first BlackBerry with a forward-facing camera, which goes hand-in-hand with the new BBM video chat function.  This front facing camera is 2 megapixel which shoots videos at 720p". While the rear end standard camera is an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash capable of shooting 1080p video, A unique feature in the Z10's camera app is TimeShift. "BlackBerry has been showing it off for a while, and it lets users dial back the time on certain pictures so that people aren't making less-than-ideal faces in it (like blinking mid-shot). It comes with a built in memory of 16Gb microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC  expandable up to 64 GB. And 2048mb of ram.

How I Reset Africard Password Without Going To UBA Bank

Last week, while trying to check the balance of my Africard  at myUBAafricard.com, I couldn't remember my password. After trying some passwords, my account was locked and I saw an alert that I should visit the issuing bank.



Few days later, I visited the UBA branch where I obtained the Visa card to know what I need to do to resolve the issue. I was told to write a letter, requesting for password reset. I wrote the letter, making sure it includes my name, Africard number and phone number. I submitted the letter and was told that I will receive my new passcode via email and SMS within few days.

Three days later, I received a mail from the bank that my Africard PIN has been changed. I was surprised because I requested for password reset and NOT PIN change. (The PIN is for use on ATM machines and not the one for online access). I tried to log on to the Africard site with the PIN and it didn't work. It became obvious to me that the bank carried out a PIN change and not password reset.



Immediately, I called the phone number at the back of my Africard, using the phone number I provided when applying for the card. I complained to the customer service agent that my PIN was changed instead of password reset. She apologized for the mix-up and promised to rest it for me over the phone if I can provide the neccessary info she needs to verify that am the true owner of the card,



I provided answers to all the questions she asked me and within 10 minutes, I received my temporary passcode for the Africard website via email and SMS. I logged on to the site with it and immediately changed the password to one I could easily remember.



Right now, I can check my card balance, transactions history etc from the website.

Echofon : Free Twitter app for iPad that Supports Multiple Accounts

The Tweetcaster app has always been my favorite app for tweeting on my iPad not until recently it stopped working on my iPad. I have tried several times to update the app but it keeps telling me that it is no longer available at the store where I downloaded it from; though have not tried downloading a fresh one from US iTunes app store.

BackUp Option Not Shown? BBM 7 Backs Up and Restores Contacts Using Blackberry ID

When I was using BBM 6.0 on my old Blackberry Curve 3, I used to back up my BBM contacts to my email address and SD card using the BackUp/Restore features. When the phone developed some fault which forced me to wipe and reload Blackberry OS on it, I easily restored my BBM contacts from my email address registered with the Blackberry Messenger.

After switching to a new BB powered by Blackberry OS 7, I noticed that there is no more backUp/restore feature in the menu options of the BBM 7 with BBM voice chat. I also noticed that the Blackberry Protect app backs Up phonebook contacts and not BBM contacts. So, I decided to google the new way of backing up and restoring BBM contacts on latest BBs.



Fortunately, I stumbled on an article on Blackberry Knowledge base that explains how the contacts BackUp feature works on BBM 7. Below, is an excerpt from the article:

As of BBM 7 the BlackBerry Messenger contacts are associated with the BBID (BlackBerry Identity). Backing up through BlackBerry Desktop Software will no longer backup BBM as the contacts are not stored locally on the BlackBerry smartphone. When moving to a new BlackBerry smartphone BBM contacts will populate on the device if associated with the same BBID.

In a nutshell, your BBM contacts are now automatically backed up as soon as you login to a BB with your BlackBerry ID. The BlackBerry ID will be used for both backing up and restoring! So, if you buy a new BB and log in with your Blackberry ID, your BBM contacs will be restored onto the new BB.

How To Add Blogger Contact Form To Contact Us Page

After publishing "Blogger Contact Form Widget Installation Guide" last week, I have been receiving several mails from Bloggers who would prefer to embed the Blogger contact form on a separate Page instead of adding it to their blog sidebars. I decided to try the trick I used in creating the "Archive" page on my blog and it worked fine.



So, if you don't want to add the Blogger contact form to the sidebar of your blog but would want it to appear on a specific page eg "Contact Us" page, then this tutorial is for you.  If you also don't want the contact form to appear on all the pages of your blog, this tutorial will also help you out. You can see a demo here.

How To Get Started



STEP 1: Create a dedicated page for the contact form



==> Log in to your Blogger dashboard at www.blogspot.com

==> Click on "Pages" > "New Page"

==> Enter "Contact Us" or anything else as the title of the Page

==> Click "Options" and select the box for don't allow comments

==> Click on "Publish"

==> Take note of the URL of this new page eg. http://www.ogbongetemplate.blogspot.com/p/request-for-template.html. You can copy it somewhere.



STEP 2: Drag the Blogger contact form widget to the main section in Layout

==> If you already have the Contact form on your blog's sidebar or footer, drag it to the main section in Layout

==> If you don't, go to "Layout" and click on "Add a gadget", click on "More Gadgets", click on "Contact Form" and Save.



Important! Drag the widget down under the posts in the main section so that it won't show up in the source code before the content.



==> After dragging it to the main section, click the "save arrangement" button.



STEP 3 : Hide the Contact Form from other pages and the main widget from "Contact Form" page



==> Back up your template!

==> Go to "Template" > "Edit HTML"

==> Click inside the html and use CTRL F to find this piece of code ]]></b:skin> or, in some templates this one ]]></b:template-skin>

==> Copy the following code and paste right under it:

<b:if cond='data:blog.url == &quot;http://ogbongetemplate.blogspot.com/p/request-for-template.html&quot;'>

<style>

#Blog1 {display:none;}

#ContactForm1 {display:none;}

NOTE: Replace the code in red with the URL of the "Contact Us" page created earlier.



Preview and save your template.



If saved successfully, view the URL of the "Contact Us" page and you should see the contact form right there on the page. If you check your blog sidebar, you shouldn't see the contact form there anymore.

NOTE: If you change your blog address after implementing this trick, make sure you update the html with the new address of the "contact us" page.

How To Hide Sidebar And Footer on ALL Blogger Static Pages

Recently, I explained how I disable sidebars and footers on Blogger pages. The trick I shared in the tutorial only disables the sidebar and footer in specific static page i.e the code will be inserted directly in the static page and will affect only the page. No template editing is needed.



Today, I am sharing with you, tutorial on how to disable the sidebar and footer in ALL the static Pages of your blog. No need inserting codes in directly in the static pages, although template editing is needed. This customization allows you to easily make all your static pages look different from your post pages.

Let's get started

==> Log in to your Blogger dashboard at www.blogger.com
==> Back up your template
==> Go to "Template" > "Edit HTML"
==> Click inside the editor and use CTRL F to find ]]></b:skin> tag
==> Directly below (under) the tag, copy and paste this code:
